As I was playing Halo 3's Matchmaking (Team Snipers), I was matched up on Guardian. When the game started, we spawned on elbow, and, naturally, we lost. This got me thinking. I have a strong dislike for Guardian, especially in Team Snipers. For a minute, I imagined that I was the playlist manager for a day, and I had the option to get rid of any map or any gametype from a playlist. Let's say that there was a poll in the Optimatch that asked if Guardian should be removed - the results were 50% for yes, 50% for no. That left me with a dilemma - what should I do with the map?
This gave me an idea - let the players choose. What if you were able to set you preferences for every playlist, which allowed you to choose what maps/gametypes you liked/disliked? The "liking" scale would be on a scale of 1-20; every map and gametype would start at 10. If you liked a map or gametype, then it would make it pop up more regularly, and vice versa.
It would try to match you up with players of a similar playlist preference to you. If you can't find enough matches in about 90-120 seconds, it will just move onto searching for players the normal way. In large parties with friends, it wouldn't bother with this, since it would take too long.
You'd also have to play on a map/gametype variant at least three times before you can set your preferences for it.
Cons: slightly longer time spent searching for players
Pros: much more enjoyable game experience
