I was playing some Halo 3 today when I had an idea. I thought it would be great if the Sentinel Beam (if it happens to be in Reach), should be a support weapon (like the Missile Pod and the Plasma Turret). What I mean is that instead of a regular weapon, maybe it should be similar to the human turret or plasma turret. I just thought it might be something cool so let me know what you think (civilly).

I dont know if there are Sentinals in Reach, but I do hope for it to appear in more Matchmaking Playlists because its a very effective weapon.

There aren't any Sentinels or Flood on Reach.

Maybe changing it to a support weapon might balance it.

The reason why it's not in MM is becuase it's stupidly overpowered. That and potential lag issues over that many projectiles in the air.

-I was here

well, there are no sentinels on reach, so if it was included, it would have to be a different looking weapon with only slightly altered properties.

There may not be any flood on Reach, but Reach did have several Forerunner structures, so I think it's possible.

I love my pancakes [:

like a proto type sentinal reaveals itself on a later on lv... you now like 343 guilty spark on CE

Absolutely.

Sentinel Beam = B.U.N.G.L.E. approved.

If you want to talk or even ask a simple question to friendly reasonable without being flamed i suggest going to Halocharts. There they will not flame or harass you, they will not shoot down simple questions or make fun of you cause of your rank. something you dont often find on bungie's forums

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

The weapon is fine as it is. The battery is so tiny you run out of ammunition before you can cause too much damage.

If making it a turret weapon is the only way it will be included in Reach, then yes. I love the thing.

They should also have the Blue sentinel beam from Halo 2.

One does not simply walk into Halo.

It's the only headshot B.U.N.G.L.E. weapon, making it even more important. The sentinel beam is great, I hope they can put it in regular matchmaking for Reach.

The turret version of the Sentinal Beam is the Halo 3 Campaign only Auto Turret.

I don't mean a mounted turret. I mean like when a sentinel is destroyed, the sentinel beam is dropped, but it has the characteristics of a ripped off turret rather than a normal weapon.

You hold it like one in Halo 3.

Yes, but the OP means in 3rd person, moving slightly slower, and turning slower.

The Sentinal Beam isnt that big or heavy. Unless its from some Super Sentinal, which is much bigger.

Not really. You're just bending loose interpretations to fit your argument.

Me too and I think this would help make it a more balanced weapon. I mean it looks like a turret and the character even holds it like one. It's not that big of a stretch.

  • 11.14.2009 4:22 PM PDT

Sentinel beams are already too unbalanced for default matchmaking, and now you want unlimited ammo on it?

Meh.

No dude. I'm not talking about a mounted turret. I mean that when it drops from a sentinel or when found on the ground (in MM) it has the characteristics of a turret. As in, you walk slower, 3rd person, etc. But it would have limited ammo of course.

PS Read thread before posting/voting please.

I like this idea. The only way to improve it is to do the following:

1. Make the Sentinel Beam larger.
2. When fired, make it more impressive; particle effects that make it seem like it's doing more damage.
3. Regardless of 2, it does the same damage as in Halo 3 (or fits within the ratio of damage it did in Halo 3 compared to other weapons).

I like this idea. Sentinel Beams are impressive, and they ought to look extra impressive. Plus, maybe if they're support weapons we'll get to see them in multiplayer maps more.

Support Weapon. The term is support weapon. I suggest editing the starting post and stating that you would prefer the Sentinel Beam to be a support weapon (like the Missile Pod and the Plasma Turret).
