I feel the same but with a few added feelings. Halo is by far my favorite game of all time but we are approching 2010 and the graphics in Halo really need to be revamped, it's very disppointing after looking at MW2. ODST was fair at best. I have to go back to the graphics, they blow. It's time for an over haul. I'd like to see bungie redefine the first person shooter with the next halo game and I for one could care less about playing as anyone but the chief. Playing as anyone else is a waste of a great icon.
ODST used the same engine as Halo 3 but it had very slightly improved graphics. MW2 also has crappy graphics(looks just like MW1). Reach will have great graphics. Bungie has been working on the new engine for quite a while.
Get ready to be disappointed about the Chief, cos we almost certainly won't be playing as him.
How did ODST have better graphics? If anything they were worse, it had that PS2 screen fuzz to cover up the underpowered rendering. Just look at the faces, the ones in Halo 3 were way better. ODST was blocky in that sense.
And if we are Blue Team the Chief will be in it. I am curious as to how they are going to tell this story though, because there are so many Spartans.
MW is largely a MP game, but they don't seem to have to put as much work into it to make it play right as they do with Halo. The two are very different. Most war games are just shoot everything that moves. All of the guns are just guns. They all have there own little quirks, but it's just bullets. In Halo they design the MP experience in a more arcade style, if you know what I mean.
Each gun is quite distinct, and they seem to have a weapon for specific purposes. Shields play such a large part as well. You can't just kill someone by shooting them. You have to make good consecutive shots to put someone down. Everything about Halo is a delicate balance. And there is oh so much work put in to making everything just so.
And we can thank M$ for killing the hype. There is Halo everything now, and people are just like oh another Halo. The time between ODST and Reach should have been another year. If you remember the release got pushed back by M$. It was supposed to come out mush earlier as an expansion, and likely cost less than it did. But instead we have ODST right now. It overshadows the upcoming release, because it is so new. And people were less than satisfied, because it's been marketed as a standalone title and cost just as much. This has hurt Halo's rep just like Wars did. It's no surprise that everyone has mixed feelings about yet another Halo game. And with M$ 343 Industries promising future releases people don't see this as the last and final, go out swinging, release that it really is.
Even if Reach doesn't build the hype we want, we can be confident that it will outlast the competition just like Halo 3 did.
