Subject: Will Reach have a new ranking system?

it better have a new and better ranking system. the one they have for halo 3 is crap

The ranking system for Halo is very well done. I like it and it has been "Tru" to me to this day. I'll post the link to the actual site from Microsoft that explains it. I still don't fully understand it. It has some complex mathmatics. I'm fairly competitive when I play Halo and the Tru Skill System pushes me to try and do my best everytime. It has made the matches I play equally competitive. Modern Warfare doesn't require a person to have skill to advance, just the ability to shoot the trigger and kill. Halo, you have to be good to advance.

TrueSkill Ranking System

I agree that the Trueskill system works well for finding a fair match. I think that there should be another system, to give players a more rewarding game. If players get points for the things they do they will feel more encouraged to play better. Everyone loves seeing a little +200 come up on the bottom of the screen for killing something in Firefight. Seeing your score grow to the thousands gives a player a sense of accomplishment. Having this incorporated into a players rank makes it more enjoyable to rank up, and not an endless frustration where you lose ranks for things that aren't your fault.

Maybe they can incorporate the 2? Have the TrueSkill for ranked and something more like Modern Warfare for social. Maybe they can mix the 2 at the same time and have 3 seperate ranks. Overall Skill Rank, Skill Rank per match type, Overall rank from performances in games. They could be mixed many ways.

I'd rather just have one consolidated rank. It doesn't have to be a number, it could be a military symbol that changes when you reach a certain trueskill level or when you get a high enough amount of exp. It could even use the military ranks we have now. Instead of numbers we would have a Captain for rank 20 and a 5-Star General for rank 50 and so on...

I think so too.

Stuffz....

I would actually like a ranking system based on experience.

I know you'll say.

aNy Nubzor c@n raNk uP Wi7 eXpeee..

Maybe it is true, but before you say that please consider that after playing a game enough times to get 1000exp it would make sense that the player is good, or else, he would keep losing games. We would also have less boosters. Also, if the matchmaking system would be based on experience, it would even up the games better than how it does now.

  • 11.15.2009 1:58 PM PDT

i think the ranking system should be much more about the player himself than his team as a whole.lets say u have a good much with a positive 5,with 5 double kills etc.the game awards u for being able to kill more than be killed for having medals etc.ur team should boost u and affect u only a bit

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Call of Duty and Halo 3 both use Trueskill to match players.

If you are asking for a new matchmaking system, you won't get it.

If you are talking about an EXP system, then maybe. I like COD's EXP system better.

I don't want an entirely new Matchmaking system, just a new ranking system. It could still match you based on your Trueskill, I just want the visible rank to be based off of more than just Trueskill.

Ok. I can see that, and I completely agree with you. I like how COD's EXP points are earned for performance in game, and your rank reflects that. The title system also sounds like somethng that I would enjoy.

But there should also be points awarded for assists, like in Gears of War 2. They give you points equal to the damage you do to someone when they die, even if you didn't fire the killng shot. There is a bonus if you do get the killing shot as well.

The main problem I have with the Halo 3 ranking system is that you are not rewarded for personal performance. Winning as a team losing as a team is all good and dandy when you choose your team mates, but when you're matchmaking with randoms, it doesn't work.

When you lose a game of Halo, you may as well have just not bothered playing at all, as all you get is an extra game on your service record.

Yeah, it would be something like Firefight's scoring system, just fewer points. If you use 100 as a basic kill, then add points based on style (Headshot, Beat down, Incineration), add points for assists, and add points for Double kills and Triple kills. Then give players a bonus for sprees. Obviously it wouldn't be the same numbers as in Firefight, because 9200 something for a kill is a little ridiculous.

Sometimes I won't even play matchmaking because I know that if I lose I'm going to go down. I think that if they changed the ranking a little the people like me, who didn't play because they didn't want to lose a rank, would start playing more and the population could increase.

ive never noticed a problem with halos ranking system, it prevents me from playing people who i will just reck without attempt, which prevents them form learning how to play. if ur skill goes down cuz ur playing on a bad day, then u go down to play with people also having a bad day and those who arent as good as u, then when u get ur skill back, your rank will reflect that and raise aswell. and then you will be playing against those your skill again.

What about when your team mates are having a bad day and go -15?
What about when you get a deranker in your team and they sit top mid all game feeding the other team kills?
What about when people quit out, especially in objective games?

if ur having a bad day then just play social till u gget beetter

if u go down u play noobs and win, who cares if u go down, at the end of the day ur still playin haloz and its still fun. when i go down a rank its not a big deal to me, i just try harder the next game, if ur constantly looseing then u should go down so u play with a more balanced crowd. and if ur teamates are haveing a bad day, and u go down, theres really nuthing u can do about it, and i do agree with the truskill ranking system for teams, individuals should be measured on K/D ratio aswell

This is a bad idea because it encourages selfish play in team games.

If you want individual skill to be reported, why don't you play Lone wolves?

Hiding trueskill could save all this trouble. Every other matchmade game does, I wonder why Halo doesn't.

This idea won't encourage bad play in team games. You'll still get assist points for helping, and nobody can stalk you for an entire game trying to steal your kills.

I do want individual skill to be reported, but I don't want it reported in only one playlist. Teams are made up of individuals. Teams win and lose together, but each person's individual performance decides the outcome. If you do really good in a game don't you want to receive credit for it? Wouldn't you like to have a second way to rank up?
