Ok. I can see that, and I completely agree with you. I like how COD's EXP points are earned for performance in game, and your rank reflects that. The title system also sounds like somethng that I would enjoy.
But there should also be points awarded for assists, like in Gears of War 2. They give you points equal to the damage you do to someone when they die, even if you didn't fire the killng shot. There is a bonus if you do get the killing shot as well.
Yeah, it would be something like Firefight's scoring system, just fewer points. If you use 100 as a basic kill, then add points based on style (Headshot, Beat down, Incineration), add points for assists, and add points for Double kills and Triple kills. Then give players a bonus for sprees. Obviously it wouldn't be the same numbers as in Firefight, because 9200 something for a kill is a little ridiculous.

The main problem I have with the Halo 3 ranking system is that you are not rewarded for personal performance. Winning as a team losing as a team is all good and dandy when you choose your team mates, but when you're matchmaking with randoms, it doesn't work.
When you lose a game of Halo, you may as well have just not bothered playing at all, as all you get is an extra game on your service record.
Sometimes I won't even play matchmaking because I know that if I lose I'm going to go down. I think that if they changed the ranking a little the people like me, who didn't play because they didn't want to lose a rank, would start playing more and the population could increase.
