Sooners finally found their offense and USC got stomped. I'm in a great mood! You're the one calling people simple minded for explaining what Bungie has done to justify aliens speaking English.

If it bothers you that much, go buy a foreign language version and read the subtitles. Should get the effect you want.

It's not my fault you fail to grasp what I'm talking about here. Did my little comment about being 'Simple minded' offend you? Get over it.

Translation software in Mk. VI armour, and grunts were taught english to spy on communications.

However, in H1 (just after Reach) the Mk. V didn't have translators, so shouldn't have them in Reach either.

*finishes post because he forgot something*

Although, retroactive canon could mean that these suits, or certain ones meant to be used for a specific set of operations, MAY have translation software and/or it may be installed at castle base during the game.

(1)the only way to escape death is death itself.
(2) pwn the world bungie
(3) never give in to BS, your always going good in your own way.

The spartans and the covenant both have translators, so they can understand each other...

actually, i really don't care. AT ALL. i am a halo and bungie fan, and i know all of the canon and stuff. but get this- I LIKE TO HEAR THE COVIES SAY FUNNY THINGS, and i don't want captions taking up my valuable screen space.

Perhaps you should consider taking an English course.

Seems you're the only one who doesn't get this. This is not reality. Video game.

Justified.

Erm, if I remember correctly, on the level Halo, about the point where you drive through the first tunnel, Cortana declares the activation of the suit's translation device. Just sayin'.

I'll see if I can find a link or something . . . .

Adding realism to the game doesn't mean I want it to be true reality. I would hate to have you working on the Bungie team if I was them...Your ideas and creativity would be limited to a tree in the background.

She says that the covenant are broadcasting tactical data over an unencrypted network, and that she'll translate it. Thing is, the SUIT doesn't have a translator built in, and Chief is the only one who we know for a fact has an AI in his suit.

They didn't know English before they found us. They learned it over the years of fighting us. I think the Grunts in particular are good with learning languages and are used to teach the other races English

Peace through superior firepower.

One of the books, an Elite is tasked with telling the Humans a message. He has a hard time doing it. To learn how to speak any language, you must translate it. Translators exist today, why can't they improve?

My point being you could never work for a video game development company because your way of thinking is very 'mediocre.'

Justified.

Hmmm. My thinking seems to work for Bungie (a video game development company).

Thus, English speaking elites.

Perhaps you should go put in an application then? I'm sure they could use your expertise.

Counter Proof:
Halo 3
Mission: The Covenant; 3nd to last cutscene
The Prophet of Truth and Johnson are BOTH talking to each other. Niether has a helmet. SO that means the Covenant know English.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

actually the covenant does know English atleast while grunts can speak multiple languages (Spanish included) the first contact between elites and humans was spoken in english by an elite stating " your destruction is the will of the gods". in fact the covenant all speak multiple alien languages so it wasn't too hard for them to learn English, seeing how they must have been studying use for years to learn and because the prophet of truth set aside teams of covenant to study our language (contact harvest).

now the translators come in because they don't always speak English and because we just can't understand nor speak there languages due to differences. So we use translators to better understand them because in the nooks (if i remember right) there have been times were only half a sentence or so was fully translated by a spartan listing to covie chatter.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

You DO know that in the Covenant military it is mandatory to know the most common language of the enemy race right?
