For honor, for glory... for the Seventh Column.
There's obviously something that is missing in Halo, and I never thought I would figure out what it was until today!
Interactivity within the game.
There needs to be more interactivity in the Halo games. It's just dull going around and shooting ALL the time. There needs to be moments where you're interacting with the environment around you to either complete an objective or get from point a to point b. Here's some examples I've taken from MW2 and ODST.
In the last level of MW2, Soap is stabbed and you have to repeatedly press x to pull the knife out...
In ODST, before you can get out of your drop pod, you have to press on the emergency hatch releases for the hatch to open.
These might be small and unimportant things, but I think they're what makes a game so cool because it promotes realism, is interactive, and takes the game away from repetitive fighting. Things like these need to be put into Reach.
An example for Reach might be having to inject biofoam into one of your Spartans if they're wounded on the battlefield.
Now, I just finished talking to you about interactive actions in game, but there's something else the Halo series doesn't have either.
Interactive missions.
Again, here I am using COD examples... owell.
In Call of Duty Modern Warfare series you get a ton of interactive missions. In COD4, there is the mission where you have to snipe Imran Zakhaev. It's interactive for the first part where you actually have to snipe him, and then the rest of the mission is just running around and shooting. Another interactive mission is the AC-130 mission where you're providing Aerial support for the guys down below.
Here are some examples that I thought would be good for Reach.
In the beginning, you're a Spartan, (Fred, Kelly, etc...) and you're all in the Pelican about to be dropped off at the Mac Generators on Reach, but things go awry as banshees are shooting at you and the Pelican is falling apart. Your pilot dies. You have to assume the role as pilot for just about 60 seconds and manuever the Pelican safely to a landing zone. Wherever you crash land it determines where you start off in the game. (Assuming Reach is open world)
Another example is you're a Spartan stationed in a UNSC cruiser in orbit above Reach. You need to get communication to High Command about something but the communications array on the outside of the ship is damaged. You have to put on EVA gear and space walk outside of the ship to the antennae to fix it with another Spartan. There's no gravity and you only have one weapon. Your pistol. You cannot walk around with your pistol because you're carrying tools with you. BUT, the cruiser you're repairing is exchanging fire with a Covenant CCS battlecruiser and the Spartan that was with you just got blasted off into space by a Banshee fuel rod cannon and you have limited oxygen. Your mission is to repair the com array and get back aboard the ship.
Anyway, I hope my point has been well made. Halo needs more interactivity.
Discuss.
