Its basically like this:
Halo CE had some weak maps and some classic maps: Blood Gulch, Sidewinder, Hang 'm High, Battlecreek.
Halo 2 had above average to classic maps, with almost not a single bad map. You can really say everything except for that swamp map was classic.
Halo 3 had Valhalla, High Ground, the remade maps and the Pit.
Halo 3 had really really really REALLY bad maps compared to Halo 2. Please just go back to the simple awesomeness of those H2 maps. I hate to say this (and will recieve some heavy flaming for this probably) but I think its because of Forge. If you notice H3 maps, most are made so that you can easily modify them using Forge items. This means: a lot of maps are almost made out of basic shapes and modules, so that the Forge items which are also mostly rectangular etc, can be easily placed. I mean the good maps in H3 are mostly not that well suited for Forge, the ones you can easily Forge are lame (compared to H2's sweetness). So I guess they should take out Forge and come up with something better suited.
