"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:5-6

I don't know how some of the more casual players will feel about this but I'm just going to throw it out there. I think that if driving the warthog or mongoose required a player to manually shift it would bring some more depth and skill to the driving mechanics in Halo. I'm thinking something along the lines of a system similar to the active reload used in Gears of War. The only difference is that it would be used to shift in between gears while driving, rewarding good drivers with faster acceleration and higher top speeds. This could give players that love to be drivers a more rewarding experience.
However, I understand that Halo is a FPS at heart and not a racer.

no

i don't want to explain it and thats why i'm not

Not only would that be confusing for new players, it would be complex. No reason for somebody who can't master a "shifting gears" control to have a slower warthog.

I don't think it would really be that complex. It would just require you to shift up in order to advance to the next gear. And depending on when you chose to make the shift will decide how smoothly you make the transition. This would also give you the option to stay in lower gears which would make it easier to control the speed of your warthog. *Remember in halo 1 how annoying it was to try driving up that spiral hill on Sidewinder without falling off?* If you could cap the speed of the car where you wish then problem solved.

But maybe this is taking things too far from what makes Halo, Halo.

Agreed.

And not only would zooming be confusing for new players, it would be complex. No reason for somebody who can't master "zooming" control to not be able to land any shots in team snipers on sandtrap.

Oh wait...

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Automatic transmission.

On the other hand, exchanging the brake button for the power slide button would make it a little harder to drive well.

Nah. I am pretty sure in the 26th century, computers will handle shifting. Hell, we have that right now. Called AUTOMATICS.

  • 11.15.2009 8:44 PM PDT

I am of an open mind and I am willing to hear criticism. Also: That's stupid and you're stupid.

I wouldn't mind the use of Project Natal to enhance the driving like it does for other racing games.

Perhaps there could even be a stick-shift option to go along with it, much easier than doing it with a controller, but that's unlikely due to it's unnecessary complication for people that have been playing Halo since day 1 like myself.

"You must be mistaken, Reclaimer. I've met your makers, and they don't even know your name..."

I think if we went from powered flight to landing on the moon in around 50 years, we can manage to put automatic transmissions in our military vehicles.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

It's 2552.

Nobody needs stickshift. Not only is this idea not balanced, it would suck.

They could easily put it in and just have the option set to automatic and just go in and switch it to your liking. When you drive there isn't many buttons used and for those who do use it could add some interesting perspective in play. Could make some vehicles harder to hit. It doesn't need to be complex shifting, just something that if someone decides to be manual and can master it gets a bonus out of it. Sudden stops when spartan lazer is on you and they miss.
