Like the book in Ghosts of Onyx, I think Halo: Reach should include with having you, the spartan having the status markers. For instance, you could put the green marker up on the heads up display to tell your teammates to push forward. Orange if there is enemies up ahead, and red to say to your teammates to not go ahead yet. (Just a rough idea) Would it be a good idea?

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

These commands could be keyed to the D-Pad directions, with the 4th for press to talk.

< = Red (taking fire)
V = Orange (warning)
> = Green (clear)

These could either appear over your head like a marker, color your service tag, or be on your HUD on one side of the screen as part of a Team status display.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, the D-pad part.

"You must be mistaken, Reclaimer. I've met your makers, and they don't even know your name..."

I'd be happier if it was automatic... my first reaction in a firefight is ALWAYS to return fire. Not "Let me call my bro and tell him I'm getting shot at!"

Since the other team can't hear you in Ranked games, I fail to see why this would be appealing. It takes me a lot less time to scream that I'm being shot or that I can't see anybody then it does to move my thumb over and pressing a button.

This would be in addition to the automatic signal from your team marer (taking damage, firing). The automatic is very good, this would add another layer of detail. Like if you found some guy with no shields and he shot you, you would flash "green" because the threat is negligible.

However, if you saw the entire enemy team headed towards you, you could flash "red" before you started taking fire to warn your teammates.

You can hear other people in ranked. You just need to be close to them.

This isn't about preventing the enemy from getting information, this is about having more detail for your teammates.

This would also allow people to communicate even if they were in a party.

Maybe it could be used for just the campaign?

yeah I want the Status markers from the books. It would color the arrow over your service tag and it would be automatic. Like if it's green it means you're fine. If it's orange it means you're hurt(it's Mk V armor again meaning they might bring back the health bar) and if it's red it means you are engaging an enemy.
