if your computer takes184-pin mem. then can it take 240-pin as well or are those two diffrent types of memory.

a 240-pin memory module won't even fit into a 184-pin memory slot. i think the pins they refer to are the metal connectors that go into the slot of the motherboard.

Hence the 184 and 240 pin name.

You can't really swap around DDR and DDR2 memory. The architecture is a bit different anyway, in addition to the difference in pin-count.
