That looks pretty nice, but I for one have seen many 3d models that top this.

RIP Deathpimp72 - A friend, a brother, a man who will never be forgotten. This place isn't going to be the same without you.

RIP ~B.B.

Not bad!

I'm sure you're aware that the lighting could use some work, the textures are a little stretched and warped in places, and the pose is fairly weak, but looking at the modeling I'd say you're off to a decent start. I'd say if you spend a bit more time working out the design of the armor you might end up with a pretty cool looking final product!

There are plenty of extremely talented 3D folks around here that could probably offer you some great advice if you're interested in hearing from them, so keep a look out for them on the forums. From my experience, all the talented people are very friendly, humble, and willing to help out those of us who are still learning.

Keep up the good work!

It would be nice to see it without the lighting effects so it's just on a white or grey background and ideally from several different directions. Also the textures look good but could do with some work

KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!

Like I said, the lighting appears bad because I use a monitor that functions on extremely high screen brightness. Just up your brightness and it'll be fine. Nothing wrong with the lighting.

Nice work so far, any chance of a wireframe shot? What are using for the original model max? Have you rigged it for animation yet?
Sorry bout all the questions lol but I do 3D here and its always god to see somebody else's work on these forums. Apart from you and the guy making the sniper rifle I think we are it! There are probably more but its a nightmare to backtrack through these forums so I patiently wait until somebody pops up lol.

Here is some of my halo models ive been working on, mostly the ships, here is a small bit haven't got onto texturing yet trying to get all my modeling out of the way before I have the tedious task of UV'ing :-(. Most of my stuff can be seen on my thread at scifi-meshes.com but the content on this link is about 10% of my halo model collection used for this upcoming animation I am doing.

Halo Models

Have you got any more models you can post? Post some wireframes too if you can its always interesting to see how people go about making their models.

If you want some help composting some images to show off all your layers (wireframe/clay/shaded/textured) then give me a shout Ive got some great links for tutorials I think would benefit you. Like others have said when you have a model woth dark shadow areas its not ideal to place it on a dark background, a light grey to white gradient usually works best that way you get to show off your model in all its glory instead of hiding it!

EDIT: @Cerilli - nice to see some other 3D artists ( in training albeit) around here lol. Could you point me in the direction of any more I cant find any save two lol!

Mind you, it looks really ugly in wireframe

Yeah, program is Max. Granted, I'm a lot better at Photoshop right now than I am at 3D, but I'm trying to work on it. Your stuff is amazing. We might have to recruit you as environment artist for the game me and a friend are trying to make.

I'd put up some more models, but right now, this is my best. I'll put up some stuff I'm working on for the game as I make it.

Also, I don't know $hit about 3D animation. Just modeling right now.

Well your model is very low poly so it would be a great way to learn animation. Its something you should learn especially if you are doing games!!!! If you learn how to rig characters now it will streamline your workflow. There are tuts that come with max check them out if you are interested you should head over to scifi meshes, they can teach you how to rig up for free. the best resource that you can have are the tuts that come with max however thats how I learnt. I also got a book called '3ds max bible'. Its a bit on the pricey side £32.99 but its huge and well worth it. It comes with a huge resource DVD and is over 1000 pages. Give it a g you can prob get it off amazon for next to nothing as ive had it for years. Its for 3dsmax 8 and im running 10 now but the book still works with 10.

it looks like a mutant brute in arbiter armor but then when I see its head it just looks like a ladybird or beetle lol

I'm not going to be doing the animating, so I don't have to worry about that =P

If you really want a job in the industry you need to be bale to show you can do it even of you don't plan on doing it when you are working. Also when you have finished a model you will be expected to model it with the intention of it being animated so you need to have an understanding in animation if you want to do this.
Dont be naive and think if yu can make great models you will get a job, you need to understand a wide range of skills even if you dont plan on doing it for a living,
When making a model for a game it goes through many different stages: conceptual/pre-modeling/ modeling/textured/rigging/animating/coding. You need to know at least concept/modeling/textured and rigging if you aim to get anywhere, I do this for an honors degree so I know the amount of work involved most of wich you do off your own back!
Maybe when you get the job you wont be animating but to actually get the job you better hope you are super slick! The competition is best described as 'Fierce' Believe me!!!!! youll want all the skill syou can learn.

I can take it from your attitude you haven't reached higher education yet but let me warn you its a whole new game! Your not doing it for grades your doing it for a job when you finish and your competing with thousands all over the world who are each on their own amazing at what they do. Its a great rush and always drives you to do better but it aint half difficult lol.

KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!

Ok, let me point out something. I'm a sophomore in HS. This isn't a life-or-death thing, we're doing it for fun, and don't plan on it being the most amazing thing on the face of the planet. For me, it's a chance to improve my modeling and actually have something sonctructive to put it twoards. That's it. Not for a job, not for grades. At least, not yet. Just something cool do do.
