Ok, if anything I said sounded like a challenge, it wasn't sorry if I sounded like that. Of course I'm not that good at 3D.

Bull $HIT you only started 3 months ago. You wanna see my models from 3 months? They are CRAP. Unless you were thinking months and wrote that instead of years. You can not be that good in 3 months.
Granted, they're awesome (particularly the pod racer, although I'd like to see some materials on it. Make it like all green and yellow or something, with orange designs).

And thanks btw

  • 11.20.2009 10:07 PM PDT

Yea about 3 months ago, lol I wouldn't of gotten this far if it wasn't for digital-tutors, especially for the pod racer does this look familiar :)

but yea once you get a good grasp in 3d modeling all you need is practice practice practice and hopefully you reach pro, I know I still have a long way to go before I reach that far.

Ok, that makes me wonder if you aren't getting models from somewhere else. Because yours looks EXACTLY like the tutorial model. And if it took me two years to make the OP model, then you certainly did not pull that thing out of a hat in three months. I believe my earlier phrase was BS.

And btw I apologize for my criticism, but the odds of you making that with only a tiny fraction of experience are [number higher than the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field in the Millennium Falcon] to 1

I'm a modeler...

Sadly my computer was wiped recently and I lost my models and I need to reinstall a modeling program...

And I'm not that good...

Although in my opinion models are as good as as much time you put into them, and if you have good taste...

Ellipses...

No its probably true I saw on his site he has been following the digital tutors course for maya, ive seen some video tuts and its a really good course you should check it out.

Thats nt true, with the right training material you can learn quicker it just depends how much tome you put in. In uni if a website module is 3 months long you are expected to complete one within the time limit even if yo have no prior knowledge of dreamweaver and flash. Anybody can learn if they are motivated and have the right teaching. As for the model looking the same as the one on the training, well thats the poit isnt it lol its supposed to look the same.

KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!

Minus my lapses of about a month or two (making my overall self-teaching at a solid year and a half) I did not get that good that fast. And I worked pretty hard.

What programmers are you using? and most importantly what training material are you using to learn from? The model you made is pretty good its very low poly and the textures need work but apart from that its fine! It all depends on how each perosn reacts to the software. Remember 3d software is just a tool and it depends on who is using it and what they are making with it the influences the final outcome. Some people will inevitably pick up 3D much faster than others, but for the best start you should invest in some quality training material.

Some of the best training you can get is by Digital-Tutors.
You can sign up for about £200 for the year so its very cheap and well worth it! Check them out if you want to improve.

OR I can learn from my dad at a cost of 0 dollars (because no one in this country charges Euros), and get an excellent, hands on training. Lucky me.

Well no offense to your dad but when SpartanL showed you his work you said it was bull -blam!- since he has only been doing it three months and you have been doing it for years. Doesn't that show you that professional training is worth it. Thats why I suggested it.
As for charging euros that's a pound sign but on the actual website its dollars $399 to be exact. When you but off an online shop no matter what country you are in the money is changed and the exchange rates automatically calculated for you.

Theirs also monthly for $45 and you can watch all the training videos or sign up for free and you can watch some free videos in the free section.

lol I wish my dad was cool like that, in fact my whole family. Im the only one thats really into video game mods, 3d modeling and things like that.

Yeah I think its a good thing your thread has brought out lots of 3D artists and since they are all here its a good idea to continue any other discussions here also?

People are so defensive and hostile on forums..... I've yet to find one where there isn't at least one person who goes out of his way to make other people feel bad.

RIP Deathpimp72 - A friend, a brother, a man who will never be forgotten. This place isn't going to be the same without you.

RIP ~B.B.

I think it's very important for people to be polite, humble, and supportive of one another. Coming in with an ego and criticizing the community probably won't get you the best response. Also, anybody who makes an effort to claim that they are better than somebody else clearly misses the point of what art is all about.

In my opinion, doing tutorials is no different than having your Dad lead you through the same process step by step to get a similar finished product. It's all about learning, and as far as CG goes, the learning process never ends.

Seriously, a good attitude goes a long way. We can all learn a lot if we help each other out instead of competing with one another.

:)
