I think it would be cool if we could choose preferred weapons that we would start each round with for matchmaking and as an option in customgames. Now don't just blow this off right away keep reading! Okay so you would choose your preferred weapons in settings at the start menu so it's not like you can choose a different starting weapon every time you spawn in matchmaking. If a matchmaking gametype requires certain weapons than preferred weapons would be turned off. If you want to change your starting weapons you have to exit the game you're playing and get back the start menu. In custom games you would have the option to turn preferred weapons on or off. Also the preferred weapons you could choose would be limited. Maybe only 2 weapons to choose from, and no power weapons. Also the starting weapons you could choose from would vary on your character model, but still no power weapons.

AR
BR
SMG

No, I want everyone to start with the same thing. Or...well at least have weapon equals, like in GOW2, you can choose to use either a Lancer or a Hammerburst, and those two are equal.

That's what I was thinking. I'm not talking about classes or anything, and the staring weapons you could choose from would be few to avoid a negative effect on balance.

No balance with BR

I'm expecting and hoping there will be at least 5 new weapons in Reach. The starting weapons don't have to include weapons like the BR if they overpower the other starting weapons. There could only be 2 starting weapons to choose from. That way it be much easier to balance.

I would like a variety of weapons of the same class for starters. And weapons around the map could be different types of sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and sub-machine guns depending on the map your on. Maybe even a feature in custom games to set all sniper rifles to one type of rifle. Hell, it would make it a lot more fun to play with the weaknesses of each gun considering there wouldn't be one all-powerful rifle.

Example: 5 types of each weapon. Like you can choose a type of assault rifle to start with, and you can unlock some rifles depending on how much exp you have. They wouldn't be too powerful, but they could look a lot cooler right?

That sounds cool, and aren't there like 10 variants of the AR in Halo? I wonder how many weapons from the books aren't in the games.

No. Why?

()Weapon imbalance on starts. AR versus Rockets? Versus Sniper? Versus BR?
()It discourages people to leave their protected areas to go looking for weapons.
()It doesn't force players comfortable with one particular weapon in a weak state by not having that weapon.
()Standard starts also limit how much power a particular weapon can dish out before it's empty.

I don't blame you for thinking that. But he did say and I quote "No power weapons". And I think he meant 4 or more equivalent starter weapons.

I blame the Wall O' Text.

I think you misunderstand me. Only a small fraction of the weapons would be available to choose for preferred weapons, and no power weapons. You can't start with a rocket, sniper, or anything like that. So people would still be encouraged to go out and find other weapons. I'm not sure what you meant by that last part. Being able to choose starting weapons wouldn't unbalance how much ammo a weapon has.

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

AR

I'd prefer starting with a shotgun, and that wouldn't unbalance it if the choices are kept to around 2 or 4 with no extreme weapons.

Maybe players could prefer secondary weapons, when allowed, and shotgun would be one of few or more choices.

I think for primary you could choose from a few rifles. And secondary would be weapons like the shotgun, mauler, magnum, and silenced pistol.

On the part about no power weapons? Yeah I did.

But even if you limit it to AR or BR starts it does change how people play. While I can't definitively say that a team full of BR starts match against a team with AR starts will butcher the AR starts I'm pretty sure it might happen.

If it's a choice over SMG, Spiker or Plasma Rifle then I can't see it being that much of an impact to warrant it's addition.

I'm not sure what you meant by that last part. Being able to choose starting weapons wouldn't unbalance how much ammo a weapon has.
Example: You start with Rockets with only four shots in it. That limits how many kills you can get with it. Then you pick up the Rockets that spawn on the map and you get a chance at some more kills with it.

You are lame...

So, OP, what you are saying is that Bungie should put in a half-assed class system? NO CLASSES!

No it's not classes, and also a class system could work perfectly in Halo. It's just it would change the style, but it could work.
