In my opinion Bungie needs to make some changes to (or remove altogether) the spartan laser. Now before everyone grabs their pitchforks and torches hear me out. The Spartan Laser as it is in Halo 3 is a great weapon...when you're the guy shooting it. It takes no more than 2 shots to take out any vehicle (if you aim right). In my experience this powerful weapon has completely ruined vehicular combat in halo 3 since now even the biggest noobs can blast ace banshee/hornet pilots out of the sky with ease and destroy any tank that gets within 2 miles of him. (And before you accuse me let me just say that I am not a vehicle noob who just had a bad game, I just don't want a repeat of halo 3 vehicular combat in halo reach)

Now that you know about my gripe you probably want to know how I prepose to "fix" this problem. Well ideally I would say remove the laser and bring back the Halo 2 rocket launcher(or something similar but missile pod sucks) maybe tone down its homing ability a little but still keep some kind of lock on capability.

However, I think that most of you really want the spartan laser back in halo reach, and if those so called "leaked photos" everyones raving about are legit(please don't discuss this here though I do not want a banhammer) then the laser will be back in reach. So I think that it should be nerfed a little bit. Maybe add a small battery penalty (10% ish or so) each time you cancel a charge up on the laser. That if nothing else.*Note, idc how the laser is in campaign, these suggestions are solely for matchmaking.*

Another idea would be to reduce the lasers power, range, or both I can't come up with an ingenious way to balence it more for mm.

If you hate it so much then why don't you grab it before hopping into a vehicle?

The laser should be given less ammo.
This is also a possibility since back then there was probably only a laser prototype.

Theres only 5 shots, if they have 3 then they should weaken the beam and make it the Tri Lazer from the H3 BEta.

Nobody uses the missile pod though, you know why? It sucks thats why, it slows you down too much and you are extra vulnerable to being sniped, stuck, and splattered.

The missile pod is a weird weapon. I cannot decide if its good or complete trash. Sometimes its the best weapon ever invented, or it just fails miserably and gets you killed.
Also the missile pod does not have the infantry killing power as the H2 rocket launcher. I am glad i don't make the games, only play them. These kind of decisions must be stressful to make.

The Oblivious Murderer

The whole point of the Spartan Laser is to be a vehicle killer. Just because it is powerful is not a legitimate reason to take it out of the game or change it. I do think that the respawn rate for the laser should be longer than vehicle spawn rates that way vehicles can be incorporated more into MP by giving them a good chance to start killing before the laser comes back.

Um why would you want to replace the laser with a rocket launcher which only requires you to aim in the general direction and let the heat sensing rockets do the rest of the work? The lock on rocket is more of a n00b gun than the laser as the laser requires you to at least aim. O_o

I think that the Laser is a good alternative to the Halo 2 Rocket Launcher. The missle pod is scarce and often inneffective, but the laser is more of a specialist weapon. It's not too useful against foot players, as it takes too long to charge, it's hard to aim if they shot you, and it's honestly a waste of a shot. The Halo 2 Rocket Launcher could wipe out a ton of players and then obliterate a Banshee and a Warthog no problem.

The thing was, the Halo 2 Rocket Launcher was a two second lock on, followed by death a second or two later. The splash made leaving the vehicle pointless, as you'd probably die anyway. The Halo 2 Rocket Launcher was definitely the ultimate vehicle killing machine.

The Laser is more balanced in my opinion. It's ammo is scarce, and you can't find ammo for it. You can miss or lose sight of the target. It didn't have a long splash that could kill tonnes of foot players. Also, it's a laser cannon.

I think the Laser, RL, and Missle Pod are fine the way they are (Although a bit more splash for the Missle Pod wouldn't hurt).

The Spartan laser is supposed to be the strongest weapon in the game. Hence why it has a 3 second charge time. The charge time allows the target(s) to evade or shoot back.

I see your point but I think that they both can be used as "n00b guns." Its just that the splaser is more annoying than the rocket launcher. *Note* That is not a fact it is an opinion if you don't agree, fine idc. I guess I would rather pick "the lesser evil," of the 2.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I would make it more like the sentinel beam, with damage similar to the needler.

You train the beam on the vehicle, and the longer the beam touches the vehicle, the more damage that is dealt (exponential damage).

Here's how I think the Spartan Laser should function in Reach:

-Charge time increased to 4 seconds
-Battery drains, like the plasma pistol, while charging
-There should be adequate warning for players being targeted by the Spartan Laser, both on foot and in a vehicle. I think in the Halo 3 Beta, an indicator showed up on screen when you were being targeted, that should return.
-Make it more of a precision weapon; this means reducing the magnetism of it, so you absolutely have to aim well with it.
