So sorry if this goes against the Book(s) but I think it would be pretty intresting as either a last level, or near last level. It would be epic, high paced, and very important in Halo's Time Line.

Setting
Night. Partially destroyed city coast. On a highway, bridge, and a large open Battle Field.

Your Foes
Everything, lots o them, lots of vehicles, think of "Coastal Highway" on super steriods x100.

Allies
You and a few Spartans and troops. Troops will be dropped off or found later in the mission. But overall you will be outnumbered 3:1 on average.

The Mission, Purpose, Story

The Pillar of Autumn is about to leave Reach in the Distance, however Covenant Anti-Air-Craft guns are threating the POA from making it. You and your men have to destroy these "Guns" before they can take out the POA.

The first Gun will be in the beginning, you get a warthog and some mangooges and you and your men need to destroy it.

Second gun is a bit further near a destroyed Bridge, you need to go on foot and storm this area, take charge and destroy this gun.

Third is up on a large hill, it will probably be the hardest because of snipers and having a very bad disadvantage (lower ground). You will then eventaully destroy this Gun.

The last Gun will be the big battle, I wouldnt say the biggest in the game, however damn big enough to make people happy. The POA is getting closer to leaving and this Gun is the most threatening.

You get any men you saved from before plus 2-3 Pelicans full of troops, and even some ODST. You will go against Turrets, around 30-40 enemy's, plus some more when you get near the Gun. And This Gun will be guarded by Ultras, Zealots and Spec Op Elites/Grunts. Most of your non-spartan allies will die here most likely .

End
When you destroy all of these guns the POA will safely leave. Leaving your men to (pretty much and hate to say it) die. However the player knowing the importance of the POA will kind of fill in that hole of your player dieing or going to.

Perhaps at this point you will really see how destructive the Covenant can be. I wouldnt mind having a pretty long CutScene showing off the glassing and total destruction of Reach. And of course some epic last words from some Spartan or General or something.

I'm guessing the last mission will be near Glassing where they find the crystal.

Oh god, another ending like ODST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, they should make it like that 'the near end where they find th ecrystal and escape'.

Hopefully, we are gonna see the abduction of John.

Signatures are for squares.

The PoA left very, VERY early in the battle.

The last level will most likely be defending Castle Base from Covenant while waiting on the Chief to pick you up in a spirit.

Also the PoA wasn't graded from atmospheric landing, so it wouldn't be in any harm from AA guns.

Awesome idea !!, I got one of my own you go to a base that is under attack but this base has a space elevator and you and your men need to get their if you want to escape. And be rescued by a hidden prowler near the elevator.

But the covenant aren't going to let you (not with out a fight)
So you manage to make it to at least a running distance from the objective and no covenant any where so youron board and on your way then a large explosion (it would seem the Elites were hiding a bomb they planted earlier incase you were to succeed and had a cloaked Elite watching youand told them to burn you and your comrades) so the bomb goes off and you and your friends (Spartans, Marines)need to double-time it outof there but the bomb has sent a large ripple throughout the elevator and it's com'n down... A cutscene comes on just as the elevator goes up in flames and your team jumps of in the nick O' time just as the Prowler moves away to avoid the chuncks of the Space Elevator it moves just close enough and the team makes it on board and safe. Now I know what your think'n there's only supposed to be one living Spartan left Master Cheif, but the Prowler then jets away into slip space following a Covenant Cruiser ( as ordered which is why they were preparing to move away) the Prowler and the Spartans pursue the Covenant ship and the team is then transported far away and isn't heard of until some time near the end of Halo 3. The story may have some holes but it's just an idea.
the only problem with mine is that the spartans don't all die, and neither does the master chief, like in the fall of reach book where all the spartans on Reach die and both of the spartans in the master chief's team die and only the master chief lives on to fight another day.
