So sorry if this goes against the Book(s) but I think it would be pretty intresting as either a last level, or near last level. It would be epic, high paced, and very important in Halo's Time Line.
Setting
Night. Partially destroyed city coast. On a highway, bridge, and a large open Battle Field.
Your Foes
Everything, lots o them, lots of vehicles, think of "Coastal Highway" on super steriods x100.
Allies
You and a few Spartans and troops. Troops will be dropped off or found later in the mission. But overall you will be outnumbered 3:1 on average.
The Mission, Purpose, Story
The Pillar of Autumn is about to leave Reach in the Distance, however Covenant Anti-Air-Craft guns are threating the POA from making it. You and your men have to destroy these "Guns" before they can take out the POA.
The first Gun will be in the beginning, you get a warthog and some mangooges and you and your men need to destroy it.
Second gun is a bit further near a destroyed Bridge, you need to go on foot and storm this area, take charge and destroy this gun.
Third is up on a large hill, it will probably be the hardest because of snipers and having a very bad disadvantage (lower ground). You will then eventaully destroy this Gun.
The last Gun will be the big battle, I wouldnt say the biggest in the game, however damn big enough to make people happy. The POA is getting closer to leaving and this Gun is the most threatening.
You get any men you saved from before plus 2-3 Pelicans full of troops, and even some ODST. You will go against Turrets, around 30-40 enemy's, plus some more when you get near the Gun. And This Gun will be guarded by Ultras, Zealots and Spec Op Elites/Grunts. Most of your non-spartan allies will die here most likely .
End
When you destroy all of these guns the POA will safely leave. Leaving your men to (pretty much and hate to say it) die. However the player knowing the importance of the POA will kind of fill in that hole of your player dieing or going to.
Perhaps at this point you will really see how destructive the Covenant can be. I wouldnt mind having a pretty long CutScene showing off the glassing and total destruction of Reach. And of course some epic last words from some Spartan or General or something.
