Subject: NOT health, ARMOR...

instead of a health system, I have devised an armor system.
first off, health deteriorates no mater where you get hit(plus head shot bonus) but with the armour system, damage is localized. for example, if you get shot in the chest, there will be a "splash" of damage, afecting the general chest area, with a dot of concentrated damage where the shot hit. damage... or better named, stress, will will begin regenerating instantly, but can only regenerate about 90%, leaving 10% permanent damage in the area (possibly repairable...) rather than health, essentially a second shield bar that doesn't recharge, or COD style red glow at the edge of your screen witch regenerates, armour will be an entirely different beast, adding more weapon specialization, and rewarding players for precision and consistency with quicker kills.

please comment and tell me if this is a good idea, or the most retarded thing you ever heard. I'd prefer the first one...

There is nothing wrong with Halo:Reach. We all just have our gripes about everything we don't like. Not liking something doesn't make it broken.

I like it. It doesn't suit the Halo games very well and I don't think this would be healthy for this series, but your idea is great. I would love the amount of thought that game would require.

Actually, that would be good for a Rainbow 6 game.

Coll idea.

to be honest it's a pretty smart idea.
I doubt something like this will be done though.

Lookin forward to reach. just like to Have fun

-take it easy- Ryan

good idea.probly wont happen though. becasue if halo reach does the same shooting system that halo 3 has were you have to lead your bullets. then that combined with lag would make it pretty annoying sometimes. but if they decide to go with halo 2's system were if u shoot them and ur retical is right on them then it hits them no bullet leading, then i think it may work.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Sort of like Section 8?

you could still have overall damage, it's mostly the localized damage concept im talking about, and I think it would be pretty nice in halo. afterall, wouldn't you be more worried about how long your spartain armour would hold, not how many plasma pistol shots you cn take to your bare, manly chest?

Good idea for a game that incorporates a health style play. It would be very good for campaign in Halo, but I hate this type of stuff for MP, slayer particularly. I would like other games that incorporate this type of stuff to affect the character accordingly as well. More damage for chest and head shots, but cause the reticule to move around more if hit in the arms, and decrease running speed if hit in the legs. Operation Flashpoint did that to an extent.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I'd prefer this over health.

Operation flashpoint also tends to operate at hundreds of meters as opposed to the usual 5-20meters of most fights in halo. It'd force halo to be a more tactile game, which it really isn't. (Not saying you can't set up stratagies or work with your team)

it would look like that, but it wouldn't just be pieces of the armour tuning red, it would be fading from green, to orange, to red with the "splash", and dark in the center of the hit where most of the damage is. you hit in the splash, you get more damage. p.s. plasma, brute shots, and explosions have lots of splash, but no central "dot".

I say no. The more complex things are, the more people complain about the game glitching. Also, when playing online, the game can barely tell whether or not you got a headshot. I doubt it would be able to determine all of this as well.

actualy, in close quarters it would be better, chaining together hits and getting quick kills, while at long range, it would have to be a couple hits a kill, or people would just run away to cover. it seperates the boys from the men in an AR fight >:D

Someone came up with the idea of an AR with a scope. Which means it'd be great at close range and at medium range =D

*Bobfather17*

And this has no effect on shield? So it's an overly complicated way to handle your last sliver of health?

  • 11.17.2009 5:19 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

I think it's a good idea. I think every way you went about it is bad.

If it's going to be armour, not shields, damage should be permanent. Once your armour has taken all the damage it can, then you should have a tiny amount of health, maybe two shots worth.

Having damage localized seems like it would mess up gameplay. It'd be too complicated when it'd be far easier and effective to just have damage affect the whole armour. Maybe weak points in the armour like the neck or armpits where joints in plates are would be better.

I admit defeat. the idea is cool in theory, and well thought out ( Ithink so anyway...) but has a few crippling flaws that make it impractical, and unlikely to be used. like a good captain, i will go down with my forum. thanks for crushing my dreams >:/ (lol)
