Subject: An economical look into what Reach may contain

Through many days of looking through topics on the forums on what people want, or thing will be contained in reach, one of the few factors I have never seen taken into account is what would be best for Bungie as a business. More plainly what will make them the most money, get them the most games sold and most people playing the game.

First let's look at some facts. Reach will be up against two huge multiplayer game on it's release, COD: MW 2 and Bad Company 2. Probably the two largest rivals for the online population. So Reach will be pulling from these two games and Halo 3 players not to mention any other game on the market.

So then the question becomes how will Reach most effectively pull people away. Firstly, Reach could copy what these games do well and hope this pulls people away. This probably won't work very well. One reason is because people do not have to play one or another they can split time between two, but if the game multiplayer is the same what benefit is it to switch to a different game. Secondly, those who are still playing Halo 3, would be less likely to upgrade too Reach due to it changing too much from the Halo style.

So Instead it must make itself unique from these, which obviously will change with everyone opinion. But it must also be a great enough change from Halo 3 that those diehard fans fell as though it's not just the same old multiplayer. Kind of like how many still play Halo 2 because the multiplayer, in their opinion, is so similiar that other aspects then gameplay make the difference.

So what does this leave. Well, in most likely hood what will come to pass is multiplayer very similiar to that of the Halo series. But changed in ways that will adjust all playing styles enough without changing the core design, Something like adding classes changes the core design, whereas weapons/equipment leave the same core but change how the game is executed. Though many of these things are very arguable.

But this would be a safe route. Bungie could decide to take a chance and totally change how halo is played, maybe instead of being in a different subclass of the FPS genre then COD and BC the try to take them on directly for some reason. This is arguing multiplayer only and not campaign.

You basically just said what my post, which is somewhere on the first page, said. Although, you were looking at it from an economical standpoint and I was talking about a fun and re-playability standpoint.

haha i'm pretty sure you last paragraph was sarcastic. It was funny. I'm glad not everyone wants Halo to be completely different. i like the old Halo. People say its the same old same old, but does that make it less fun? not in my opinion.
Also, personally i enjoyed equipment. They made game-play a lot more interesting. Thank you for accually being intelligent and writing facts about things instead of some people on forums who just say what they want without stating any reason why they want it or any reason Bungie would want it in there game. You my friend are a good poster :)

I think at this point, Bad Company is early enough, Treyarch is hated enough and the Halo name is big enough for everything to work out fine.

In my opinion, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just add stuff on top.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

A good way to bring in other players without copying game play is to expand the available features.

Halo 3 did a great job of this, with both Forge and Theater Modes.

Reach can do the same thing:
Metagame for Matchmaking (point scoring)
Firefight++ (more maps, more options, matchmaking)
Forge++ (glue function, multi select, copy function, undo function)
Theater++(allow host to take photos with other people watching the video, rewind mode, FX filters, audio capture)
Unlockable material (concept art, bonus campaign missions, mini games, armor pieces)

Game Modes: bringing back several choice ones from Halo 2 and keeping the ones with potential from 3 (H2 territories, H2 Neutral Flag, H3 VIP, H1 Race)

It's on a lot of community maps. Affinity, Think Twice, Abridged...

I meant good maps

I think they should make it into a racing game.

Hate to burst your bubble, but absolutely none of that was fact. It was ALL speculation. It was very reasonable speculation, but still, nothing more than specualtion. The FACT is that we have no idea what multiplayer will be like besides the obvious fact that it is a FPS.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME GROUP INVITATIONS

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

Melee lunge, Boarding, Dual wielding, Lack of Fall Damage and Regenerating Health were all core gameplay changes. These kinds of changes can happen, even in a single trilogy. REACH isn't even a part of this story arc so I don't see why the gameplay has to be bound to the original Halo story arc.

I would like the gameplay to go either way: back similar to Halo 1; more skill-oriented, powerful weapons, equal focus on teamwork and individual achievement.

OR

Class-based combat. I would like it to have the same controls and feel of Halo, just with different stats and starting weapons for different classes pre-balanced by Bungie (like Infection in H3 but with more than just humans and zombies).

IMO Custom classes just wouldn't be good for Halo as a "super-class" is bound to pop up and things get over or under-used. I don't like weapons unlocked by ranking up either. If there is ever a Halo RPG, though, it would be great to have modular weapons (M6 Pistol, MA5 Assault Rifle, M19 Launcher, etc. and you swap out ammo, add-ons, grips, sights, etc. to turn them into the M6D, M6C, M6G, or even new weapon variants)

Well I would never like Halo to go class

But the RPG yes.

I would love the same thing you said. And class would work with that but provided if you did enough leveling you could start to become multi classed

I just wasted a few seconds of your life and you're never getting them back!

I kinda like the old Halo feel, and i hope gameplay isn't changed too much.

I completely agree, only thing i can even think of adding to this, is new weapons! lots of new weapons that wont go unused. I want every weapon to be used and there to still be a balance. Everything needs to have pros and cons.

Whats up with Spartans calling Elites Dinosaurs? I mean Spartans are the ones almost extinct! XD

Whats best for customer is best for company yes?

i would like an RPG touch on halo like u can get good at weapons when using them like when using a BR much u reload slightly faster,u shoot with more precision.not somethin like COD with ur reload cut in half but like a maximum of 25% more accurate like the amount of efficiensy a soldier can get.
u would also form squads like a team of six with a heavy gunner,a medic with small shots to replenish the other members health a sniper with a slightly better scope and better accurasy,a CQC with a shotgun and a melee instant kill against opponents with normal shields and othe members
