I think (and hope) it will because in halo 3 there were a lot of physics glitches like in forge once wire spools started acting like they were in a vacuum of empty space, they flipped around the same way and went the same direction until they hit a box, and a similar glitch happened with a scorpion, it start flipping and slowly floated down when I was still holding it, then another scorpion came out of the one I was holding and the one I was holding fell. I also heard Bungie is using a new engine for reach and hopefully it has a better physics system.

Proud frenchie, elite fan, anthro artist not hellbent on yiff convention/pics/whatever, mature and intelligent forum guy, 4chaner, halo 2 lover and halo 3 hater.

the physics engine was pretty bad in H3, really.

some flaws :
-if you get close an object, it does a little jump. did you startle it?
-if you die while being on a crate, your body falls through it.
-objects are either 200 tons heavy and you can barely move them, or so light they seem not to exist (see : concrete barrier / small crates). isn't there a middle ground? :/

so I do hope it'll be better.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I have a feeling the physics will behave far more like Halo CE's. Just updated.

I have seen stuff similar to this, and also, the stretchy-man glitch should be improved by better physics.

In CE a warthog can bounce off a scorpion, I hope that's not what you mean.

As good as the Source Engine physics? Please make it so Bungie.

1. I think there might be different rules for how an object behaves based on how close you are, i.e. how likely you are to see it behave a certain way. So when you get closer, new rules are applied, and it behaves accordingly.

2. There were probably problems that arose from the body's death animations and the crate's collision routine, so they took it out. (Just assumption)

3. I completely agree here. Things don't seem to weigh what they should, and friction is way off.

There is nothing wrong with Halo:Reach. We all just have our gripes about everything we don't like. Not liking something doesn't make it broken.

Yes. You did. If you weren't so mean maybe they wouldn't. Try hugging a cone or two for a change. You'll earn the maps trust back in time.

It is a little know fact that Spartan are made up of 80% magic and 20% children's laughter.

When they die, they simply teleport back to the plane of existence their homeland, Neverland, and lose the ability to collide with certain objects.

I gotta agree here, silly stuff aside, this has been an inexplicable WTF for me since the release of the game.

My troll sense is tingling.

It's using a new AAA engine. That's like Crysis level of engine.

No way! Proof or GTFO. NOW.

I gotta see this for myself.

The 360, or any other console can't handle an Engine like the one Crytech uses. They spend years developing their engines. Bungie do it in about 1 year, if that.

The engine won't be as good as the Crysis one.

You may not remember, but shortly after Halo 3 came out Bungie had a weekly update where they shared with us some funny images from some testing they were doing of a certain technology that might be useable in "future games".

The test involved Master Chief pulling a lever and firing Sargent Johnson into a giant Pach!nko machine (note the ! is used because otherwise the word gets -blam!-ed) where they tried to get him into little buckets.

Now what would they be testing for by firing a limp body into a giant maze of pegs and watching him fall?

Methinks it means they are going for more realistic falling animations in Reach. In Halo 3, it's just bicycle arms all the time whenever you die in midair. It gets a bit reptitive, and would be cooler if bodys could spin or twist in midair, though only if it looked realisitc. By smashing Johnson's body into various surfaces and seeing how he reacts as they change certain variables, they could see if they could get a realistic looking effect.

So to answer your question, this might be one way the engine could be improved.

In every Halo games to date, it's just bicycle arms all the time whenever you die in midair.

I fixed it.
and now that you mention it, I remember them talking about it... and also that they can't release it as an XBLA or DLC minigame >.<
I hope you're right though.

...But what I said wasn't wrong... =(

But it totally makes sense, its during the period of time where they are heavily developing the new engine and prototyping technologies.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

I hated how a BR could flip a moving Warthog and ATV.

yeah, Bungie really screwed up with the Anti-vehicle stuff.
To many anti-vehicle Guns and the others flip warthogs that has a 600 pound Spartans driving them.

-I really hope that bungie would improve the physics in Reach.

Bungie's physics engine is pretty great (it does things, whereas I know many games that don't use a physics engine that does more than rudimentary work), but it does have flaws in how it portrays mass and spatial relativity. As was said, the way objects react to player proximity, for one odd problem.

And yeah, mass is important. If you play as a Spartan, and you are wearing a 500-lb. suit of armour (which you are), you shouldn't bounce off the ground like plastic. You are a heavy metal clad soldier, so you should instead just thunk down like dead weight. If Bungie could work on that, much appreciated.

But I wouldn't count on it.
