I'm wary. I have a feeling that Reach will either surpass CE, or will fail harder than Halo 3 did.
Halo 3 failed? How so? Is it the fact that until Modern Warfare 2 came out, it was the most played game on Xbox Live? How about being the most successful game in terms of sales at the time (and currently still the best for a single system)? Is it a fail because you've played over 4,000 games, bought all the maps, reached a rank of Colonel Grade 3, and also have a good majority of the achievements for it? Yeah, Halo 3 was anything but fail, and in my mind (and I have played all 5 games), Halo 3 is the best Halo game.
Owned.
Halo 3 is by far not the best Halo game.
It has nothing to do with the dude buying the mappacks and stuff like that. Halo 3 is just average for a Halo game.
Why? Well because its the same game as Halo CE 7 years before it, only with updated graphics.
- Gameplay hasn't changed that much, it was revolutionary when CE came out, still ahead when H2 came out, but was caught up by the competition when H3 came out, making H3 feel like any other shooter out there.
- Multiplayer maps suck. Played H2 for 3 years and every single map in that game is classic. H3 came and brought some average maps with it.
- Equipment = fail....epic fail. It doesn't work, its lame, why put it in? In the beta it did kind of work, now it doesn't.
- Halo CE brought an interesting story with it, Halo 2 came and cranked up the epicness leaving us expecting a huge battle for Earth, all trailers hinted at sheer awesomeness...Halo 3 came out, and what was it about again? Half of the cutscenes don't tell you anything, the one with the Elites before going to the Ark...you can barely hear what they're saying! Again it doesn't feel like we are going to save Earth, it doesn't feel as if this is the last stand, it lacks depth....really, it is a HUGE let down.
Halo 3 isn't a bad game, but its not the best Halo. Halo CE is still feeling modern, new almost (if you could look past the graphics) for an 8 year old game. It made impact on the genre, will still hold up in 10 years from now, thats a classic. Halo 2 has that in terms of multiplayer maps, Halo 3...well 10 years from now, I won't be going back and say "Damn this was an awesome game!"
On topic:
I'm not hyped. Hype f-s up every game. Halo 3, GTA IV etc etc. I'll probably be looking forward to it more and more when it gets closer and we get more details, but for now: I'm not excpecting this to be Jesus returning to Earth in the shape of Halo...as we all did with H3.
