Ohai. My name is cullen. lets play some time :]

It seems as if in the recent games the covenant wasnt depicted as thay are in the books. For example in halo 3 when seargent johnson was captured they just threw him in a holding cell sort of thing, while I think they really would have ripped him limb from limb. Making the covenant a bit more rough adn harsh would add that certain feel to the game like the call of duty series did. The call of duty series made you hate the enemy and not think they were funny or cute. So I want to know what you think, Should bungie make the covenant harsher and more brutal then previous games?

HOORAH, SENIOR CHIEF!

Pay attention to the dialogue just before the cutscene. They are baiting a trap for the master chief and the arbiter. Thats why earlier in the level the brute holding a marine beats the crap out of him(unless you kill the brute first)

I make a legitimate thread on the most logical choice for the next Bond actor, and you take that away from me by creating a parody thread indirectly connecting my thread to yours.

I hope your kids have bad influences and develop bad personalities. I wish this with all my heart.

I think he's saying the Covenant is already harsh, and you just aren't perceptive. But yeah, perhaps some more obvious moments, like the Arbiter's stomach punch in Halo Wars on Forge, that make the guts of the weak go even weaker. Good sound effects. I wanna see a few penned up Marines get slaughtered.

yes because this is toward the begining of the war sooo the covenant isn't as worn down yet plus elites are back so we'll see

I want this reaction "haha look what hes going to do...wait hes not doing that... HOLY $#!+ THAT ELITE JUST TORE THAT GUY IN HALF OMFG!"

See you on the battlefield.

The enemy should be more brutal, and unforgiving. In the lead-up to Halo 3, the way the brutes were depicted in ViDocs, pretty much fit this bill. In the final game, they became even more retarded than in Halo 2. What happened?

No... if it is based around Fall of Reach and First Strike then it would be around the time of Halo CE. Halo CE takes place about 30 years (I think) after the war starts.

But yes, harsher covenant would make the game more enjoyable. Halo 3 was too comical as far as the covenant go.

I want Halo to be like that moment in Gow with the berserker. It was like "OMG!!!! RUN RUN RUN IT RIGHT BEHIND US OMG!!!!...(heavy breathing) Okay I think we lost OMG NO IT GOT JENKINS! OMGOMGOMG!!!!!! ITS GONNA -blam!- ME!!!!!!!!!!"

ya something like that.

There once was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died.

The end.

SCFH

I was watching some pre-views of Character Actions before Halo 3 came out. It showed that a Brute grabbed a warthog and flipped it while marines were still in there. It also showed an Elite with dual-energy swords stabbing a brute when it was helplessly on the ground.

That seems pretty harsh.

I hear you loud and clear OP, and I agree wholeheartedly. The main problem I see with the covenant is that they are not scary or even the slightest bit intimidating. In all the games you play as a superhuman that can easily deal with them and takes out wave after wave without even breaking a sweat. This alone makes them feel weaker than they are supposed to.

Even when Bungie put you into the role of a grunt (no pun intended) in ODST, you still feel more than confident that you can take them on with no problem, even on Legendary. Halo Wars took a step in the right direction by making the covenant species look more ferocious than normal. I feel that if Bungie wants us to actually fear the covenant than they need to MAKE us fear them. Use Halo Wars style designs for them, make their weapons look menacing, do not make them see cute or anything like that. MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT HAVE THEM SPEAK ENGLISH! Not understanding the enemy makes them seem more foreign and strange than they really are. Hearing a squad of Elites speaking to each other in their own language makes the world feel more real AND gives them a little bit of a mysterious edge. Hearing them say, "WORT WORT WORT!" or "I WILL FIND YOU! LOLOLOLOL." is not scary.

TL;DR
I agree with the OP.
