the one thing that bothered me about the health system, is that it was so unrealistic. your low on health, so you run up to the wall and a health pack magically gets absorbed into your body.
i think a system like left 4 dead and l4d 2 have would add a new strategy to halo.
now im not saying "steal the health idea from l4d" im just saying why not have bio foam canisters and have your character stab it into himself. it would look cool, and would add a sense of realism to the game.
discuss.

Does it really matter? It's a video game.

I understand what your saying here it would make the game feel more realistic and interactive. The bio-foam canisters are from Halo 3: ODST and they could well be used for Halo: Reach in the same way the health packs are used on Left 4 Dead. Also the idea wouldn't be stealing, Video game developers use each others idea's all the time. Ubisoft admitted that Call of Duty 4's multiplayer heavily influenced that of Far Cry 2 and Medal of Honor made Call of Duty in the first place and Medal of Honor wouldn't of existed without Golden eye 64.

I agree completely, I was saying this exact same thing in another topic about how every game developer uses other ideas. I even used Goldeneye as an example. Then everyone started saying that Halo didn't use anything from goldeneye which is not true.

So back to the topic, I think that an animation using the health pack or canisters is a good idea. It keeps the game grounded somewhat in realism, which in turn helps pull gamers into the gameworld.

Yea of course Halo took elements from Golden Eye it's probably safe to say that Golden Eye is to thank for every single 3D FPS today and if Bungie does include the Bio-Foam canisters and use a Mechanic similar to that of Left 4 Dead, other developers may follow.

Yeah, Battlefield: Bad Company uses a similar mechanic with their health injections which works really well. It also adds another layer of strategy to it because it takes some time to actually heal yourself, so you're vulnerable to attack while you are healing.
