Drivable Phantoms and Pelicans have been in high demand for Halo 3. So, would you like to see them in Reach?

The Phantom would handle like the ODST Banshee, it's more manueverable, but can't come to a complete stop, close, but not quite.

The Pelican would fly like the Hornet, it can hover, but is slightly less maneuverable.

They could also come in armed and unarmed versions perhaps.

(This is all assuming that there is forge, custom games, and matchmaking.)

In ODST, the banshee can hover, and the Phantom could hover in Halo 2, 3, and ODST.

why :
-you'd need maps at least 3 times bigger than sandtrap to have any real use for them.
-you're a giant sitting duck.
-hard to balance. either you'll be shot down easily or you'll be way too resistant.
-people will do crap with them (take the pelican and leave the team without it for the rest of the match, aka "i drive teh worthog alone no gunner style splattorz" syndrome)
-instant +16 kills for enemy team if you're shot down with a full load (of passengers).
-slows down action.
-this is halo COMBAT evolved. not "omglol HUEG PLAENE FLIGHT!!!11!".

Tag 'm and Bag 'm

For custom games and machinima it would be cool. In matchmaking no way. they are to big and clumsy and would make target practice for everybody.

I agree. It would be kind of cool to have one in campaign (with rocket pods on it).

So air combat isn't evolved enough?

Besides, did you know that there's a 'not in matchmaking' option? Imagine the possibilites in custom games.

you do know we're not talking of air COMBAT with pelicans, right? they are DROPSHIPS. they drop you into combat, go back where you respawn, rinse and repeat. they are not flying tanks.
besides all my points still stand, matchmaking or not.

Play the first level of Halo 3 again. They shoot about 700 rockets and take out the phantom that would normaly take about 15 seconds of constant fire from a tank to take down. Sure they aren't a flying tank, they are much better.

Not as default in any maps, but I would love the option to put them in for forge. There are a million and one minigames you could put this into use for.

Imagine playing a one sided bomb or ctf game in which the other team would fly to some fort and drop off troops with phantoms and pelicans.

i think its agood idea.the pelican/phantom would go down with three lazer shots anywhere 2 on the thrusters and one on the cockpit if u hit the the pilot.there shall be a driver,a co pilot and a crew of three spartans(normally it takes 15 marines
cause armored marine=100k soartan=500 k so instead of 15,3
pilot controls the pelican/phantom ,the landin gear and the magnet to catch/release vehicles while the co pilot controls the rocket launchers and any other weapons

i think it would be cool if you could take a huge map like sandtrap, and then be able to have 1 pelican on each side. it would take 3 laser shots to knock one out of the sky, and you could load your whole team into it. the chin guns would have to be sorta weak, or the pelican would just hover and destroy the team that it was attacking. if a pelican full of troops was shot down, people would take fall damage if they jumped out of the pelican, like in odst. so they would have to time it. it would also be cool if the pelican would make a big, crater/trench/hole if it crashed. the pilot would have limited ability to manuver it so the rest of the crew could escape, but he would die. if he abandoned ship, the whole team would free fall and be crashed or splatted under the weight of the pelican.

the pelican wouldn't even have to be crash-landed if the pelcian was hit hard enough the first time. so if a couple guys with lasers hit it enough times as it was falling it would just explode into pieces and everyone inside it would die.

the one problem would be if everyone inside it fell out as the pelican flew verticly up, so once you got in all you would have to do is find a seat to sit in and it would say "hold RB toy ride in pelican." you wouldn't be able to shoot if you were riding in the pelican, because then you might have a chance of hitting your own teammates. the chain-gunners position would be open to anybody who want to take it. and the only way to get out of your seat would be to "press RB" again.

phantoms would be just the same. except you would have to find wall space to stand, or floor to crouch on.

the vunerable points would be the fuel pods.
