A reason to not have tons of silly stuff, even in customs.
That all takes work, more than you apparently think. Work I'd rather have go into development of campaign and balanced MM.
Halo 3 was a nightmare, even with the Beta, for the first year so much was changed and move it felt like a post-beta(Cappa?). Why was it like that? They got pushed and tried to fit too much in. The had many of the DLC maps in the works and pretty much just cut them from production. They were simply spread too thin.
I can appreciate a little here and there, like the golf club, but seriously...
It's a console game. If you are really into zany mods and options, start PC gaming, that's where the built in support for that stuff is. Hell Counterstrike started as a mod for Half Life. Maybe you'll even make some money.
However, asking for Dev's to basically do it all for you is...well...selfish.
Halo, is and was, about Halo, first and foremost, with small easter eggs here and there.
I'd rather keep them very small and plentiful than have the whole game become a pie in the face, foam finger slapping, and slime getting dumped on people kiddy show circus with calliope music in the background.
Why not pack as many "cool" things in as possible? It's simply too much. Many of the cool items are only really cool because nothing compares with them. They're a sort of special and unique, but when there are so many unique things around, none of them are special anymore, just different.
Take a sandbox, set up some toy soldiers, and put a piece of costume jewelry in the center as the magic stone. It's nice, because it's special.
Now back up a dump truck, that's filled with faked diamonds and rubies and whatnot, to that sandbox and let it all dump out onto the sandbox. Now you can't even see the soldiers or the sand for that matter. It's just this big shiny heap that you can't even look directly at.
Where's the fun in that?
