I've been playing Halo since 2002. My earliest memories include hiding at the shotgun window on Damnation and killing my dad with grenades while playing co-op on Pillar of Autumn.

6. Master Chief travels back in time. This is just chronologically impossible.
It works in CoD.
I hope this happens actually, I would find a way to enjoy it and it would make a very nice, very open gateway for any studio that gets any future Halo game titles. Give them more room for change.
It is your close-mindedness that fails to understand this is a videogame we are talking about and even though Bungie loves their canon, the canon is and always will be entirely up to them
If halfway through the game an Older Chief crashes on Reach to aid his younger self in turning the tides? There is not a damn thing you can do about it. I could probably manage to like the scenario so long as it is 'Epic' feeling. The only thing wrong with it in my eyes is what would become of the Elites.
For all you know? The end of this game will make the Halo:Legends anime Canon.
Don't assume. There is a reason the word starts with 'Ass'.
Edit note: By the way, I do understand you satire, but for some reason I can't even see these 'I know the story is gonna be like this' type assumption without stating my little point here. Ain't sayin it at you OP, just saying it so it is said.
Well, if the Chief DOES go back in time for Reach, and it's canon, then the fact that he went back in time and change the coarse of time would ripple all throughout the Halo games, creating literally completely different scenarios for each of the games. Say the Chief in 2553 went to reach in 2552, maybe the Chief in 2552 would die as a result of the older 2552 chief coming to Reach and changing pivotal events in Reach's history.
What do you think the marines would say about the Chief when they approach them, and he's been confirmed KIA?
It just wont work.
Who says either Chief would have to die?
Huge chunk of scrap metal lands.
Level has you as a Younger Chief trying to get to the mysterious wreckage first.
Enter Wreckage, Cortana watches you as you move through the ship silently, guiding you a bit.
Enter Older Chief.
Epic moment ensues as the two meet after the pod opens on its own.
-Cue fanboy squeals-
Cortana simply states 'You DID say to wake you when I needed you.'
Younger Chief has no clue what to make of older Chief, unable to be sure who it is. Older Chief immediately seems to understand and you fight your way out of the Covenant that came to investigate.
Older Chiefs hides his identity to all but a select few, the top names cover him up to make him look less suspicious.
-cue tides turning-
Older Chief gives the younger self (you) all the backup you could need.
Younger Chief is Chief. Older Chief is regarded as a nameless Spartan, shrouded in mystery and manly badassery.
If I can think that up on the go, what do you think Bungie could manage? Saying it is impossible is simply doubting Bungie. Saying it is improbable is just common sense.
There are ALOT of plot holes in your post, although, it somewhat makes sense.
