I haven't beat it yet.

Yes. And surprisingly enough, it's fairly easy. Just take your time and use power weapons carefully. Oh, and keep the Sniper Marines alive.

Beating the game on Legendary takes several things:

Patience
Strategy
More Patience

What most people realize at some point is that the run in and gun everything down approach does not work past Heroic (nor for many parts of Heroic). There are more enemies, they are smarter and not so intimidated by your shiny armor. All in all, it is very satisfying to complete on Legendary, but by no means even close to impossible.

  • 11.21.2009 9:48 AM PDT

Yup, I have.

And the parts you think'll be hard/scary aren't really as difficult as you'd think they are -- you just have to take your time, and be very careful.

One useful tip to remember is that you can just plain-out run right through some parts, not having to deal with all the enemies. Some parts I ran through (rather than fighting) were at the base of the summit (ran to the Banshee) on Two Betrayals, and through the Flood-infested ground parts on 'Keys'.

Again, really not that hard, but patience is a must.

Halo 1

Cortana: It's over... Halo, It's finished.
Master Chief: No, I think were just getting started.

I kill just kill them when they stop following you (sorry Jhonson) and take the sniper.

Marines are useless (except for snipers), suitable only for (brief) distractions. Learn where power ups are, and stashes of ammo. Don't plunge into the midst of combat, but linger back and harass enemies to come to you. During flood levels, let them and the Covenant fight each other out. It makes it easier and its fun to watch.

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

Does beating it with cheats count?

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

- B( )B

Best way to beat it is by being patient and waiting for the prime opportunity to strike, stealth, the use of long range weaponry, and getting creative.

Supreme Dictator, Industrial Polluter, Megalomaniac, Corrupt Politician, Underhanded Reprobate, Rainforest Ravager, Puppy Kicker, Oil Spill Coordinator, Holiday Hater, and an Insurance Salesman.

Yes, and with the exception of horrible performance on Truth and Reconciliation, it wasn't too bad.

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Halo: CE Campaign on Legendary was and is one of the greatest video game experiences one can ever have.

Even today, games fall short in all categories when comparing the great enjoyment one had from playing alone or with a friend on Halo.

EXTREME PREJUDICE

Beaten it a few times.

The most recent was a shocker though. I hadn't played CE in a year or two and decided to give it another go. I was on the second level at the very last group of Marines - the big rock slide area. I couldn't believe how insanely hard it was to survive through three or four waves. I had virtually no ammo, all my Marines were dead, and I was flanked on all sides trying to hold off on top of a big rock they couldn't get onto. I lost count how many times I was killed.

This is an experience none of the other halo games could recreate.

This is a weird area, because, (after a while) Legendary seemed like the only way to Halo. Is a challenge, yes, you have to concentrate and do things right, but... folks who are ranked pretty highly in versus haven't "beaten the game" on Legendary in other Halos. Versus seems really hard to me; a person is liable to do anything and has much more intelligence than any AI. I get nervous and suck, but do pretty well on the campaigns.

Well, that can't be helped. Campaigns are entirely different from Multiplayer. Teamwork, communication, and the enemy using them back, along with no limits on tactics or movement change everything.

jedi or mjolnir
p.s. look at those halo achievements/halowars included!!!

yes, and it was cake. except when actually trying to save marines. every man 4 himself, the chief wins.

It's not easy, but is the only way worth playing.
Your strategy for success at easier difficulty will get you killed.
Learn to tag Elites with sticky grenades. They are plentiful and there is no reason not to think it should be your first option. The Needler murders Elites. Take time to realize what its limitations are and when not to use it.
The Sniper rifle is rarely worth dragging along in most parts. Learn to improvise and make do with lessor weapons. Same for Rockets.
The plasma pistol is very powerful and easy to find. Learn to use it to strip Elites of their shields. With or without the charged up shot. Elites with no shields are just less funny grunts.
Marines are generally worthless. Chaingunners and snipers are exeptions. A speeding Warthog with gunner will give Covies fits and is unbeatable.
Hunters are pathetic opponents and far too easy to kill.
You ought to be able to take down a red or blue Elite with nothing more than your trusty AR in a close quarters encounter. Just give them short bursts, melees and dodge when they step forward to whack you. Easy.

Belly of the Beast on T&R will give you nightmares. Remember to use the Active Camo and greet every opening door with a shower of grenades.
Enjoy.

Wort, wort, wort!

I found Truth and Reconciliation easy on legendary. Maybe because when I'm bored I play Halo on legendary.. Hmm. Yes. I have completed the bloody game for around 40 times, 10 of them on legendary.

  • 11.22.2009 6:23 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Yes. It's all a matter of staying back and pretty much sniping with every weapon. Kill grunts and Jackals and then you can close in to kill the Elites.

Also, a lot of back peddling is involved.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

I wouldn't call it outright easy, but if you've done it several times it certainly isn't hard. There are also several areas where you can literally bypass battles by either running through them or totally sidestepping them.

If you take every engagement as it comes though, the game is a solid challenge, and easilly the best legendary Halo campaign experiance for my money.

It is funny how different the reaction to the Plasma Pistol is throughout this conversation (and many others). When I first started playing Halo, I thought the Plasma Pistol was just a paperweight, bad excuse for a weapon. Having completed Legendary probably a hundred times over the years, it is safe to say that the Plasma Pistol is probably the most versatile and useful weapon there is. There is not one thing that cannot be killed or destroyed with it. Other than the Sniper Rifle, it is the most useful tool for long distance pinging of shots to take out anything short of a Banshee (that just takes waaaaaaaay too long and I do not typically have the patience for it). Whereas in the beginning I avoided the PP cause I thought it was lame, now if I want to challenge myself I force my gameplay to be without it for levels at a time, or even the whole game.

  • 11.24.2009 2:01 PM PDT

I found it hard.

  • 11.24.2009 2:24 PM PDT

Agreed. The Plasma Pistol actaully has a further effective range than the old M6D. Sniping grunts out of Shades really saves Sniper ammo on T&R. You can also center a scoped weapon on a distant, shielded, target and let fly with an OC shot. By the time it gets there, you have already switched to the M6D and can headshot even golden elites with remarkable ease.

With practice you can twitch your trigger finger faster than the Plasma Rifle and strip away enemy shields while circling in for a melee attack. You can fire it fast enough to be a
good stand in for the AR when you first get swarmed by popcorn flood on Guilty Spark.
Most people lament the taming down of the M6D from Combat Evolved. I say it was a bigger crime to retard the effectiveness of the Plasma Pistol.
