Subject: Halo: Reach and teammates quitting

We all hate it when a teammate quits on us, but it does happen.

What I want in Reach is a solution to this problem. I have a couple of ideas that I think could improve the situation when a teammate quits.

1) Allow a guest to join in replacement of them. Simple? Just let a guest join and then the team is full again, no worries.

2) When a teammate quits speed up the spawn time for the rest of the team. This would mainly apply to objective games because losing one teammate in an objective game is pretty nasty. For instance, if you had a team of 4 and one person quit your spawn time would be 25% off to compensate sligtly.

3) Harsher penalties for those who do quit. If someone quits because they are losing there deserve a worse penalty than -1xp. They shouldn't be allowed to join another game for 5 minutes. Should they turn off their Xbox this penalty will stay - people need to be penalised for quitting.

Now you're all probobly going to say "get friends" or "play lone wolves", but I shouldn't have to! When I want to play Halo I don't want to spend 20 minutes organising and setting up a team just to play a 10 minute game.

So anyway, those are my ideas.

4 or 2.5 : if a teammate quits, he can not join a game (matchmaking/custom/forge) until the match he left is over.

I disagree. You should be able to quit custom and forge games however you want, and custom/forge games can last for hours.

you didn't get it.
let's say you play social slayer, and you end up on a map you hate. you leave the game, you are not allowed to play any custom game/forge/matchmaking until the match you left is over.
this doesn't apply to custom/forge games, so you can leave whenever you wish.

Yes because you know when I am being spawned kill on a map because I am severely outnumbered, what I want to do is spawn more often.

Number 1 didn't make sense, and number 3 has been suggested enough times and I agree with it.

poop

option 2 would be good.

Since you lack basic skills of comprehension I'll make 1 clearer. If a teammate quits someone beside you in real life can pick up a controller and sign in to replace them. i.e entering guests during a game.

If you actually read you'd of realised that the 2nd option is to be applied to objective games only. Remember what they are? Or have you forgotten because you are "so MLG" you only play slayer.

Dude, chill he wasn't attacking you.

Also, I'd agree for worse punishments for quitting, but how would the game be able to tell the difference between quiting, or like if your connection to the internet dies?

  • 11.21.2009 7:29 AM PDT

As far as I'm aware you'd just have to live with it if you disconnected. I don't know if it's possible to tell the difference between someone turning off their router intentionally and someones internet dropping.

But anyway, a few minutes penalty is probobly how long it takes for your internet to come back (maybe).

Bwhaha, I was taking the OP serious for a minute there, until he made that MLG comment. I guess he forgot that there is ball, hill, and flag in MLG too? slayer is only 25% of MLG.

But no, only change they should do is if you are matched up with randoms, and they quit so you have half the people you start with, you shouldn't lose level if you lose. But it has to be randoms so some noob can't go in with 3 friends and have 2 of them quit when they are about to lose so they keep their level.

There are quite a few other ideas, this one again is pretty reasonable.

As for MLG I never play it because it's pretty pathetic, so I wouldn't know ;)

Number 2 for objective games.

Number 3 for all games.

How about we allow drop in, drop out MM? That way, if someone quits, boom, someone else can join in.

And punishing people for quitting is dumb. What if my dad starts having a heart attack? What if some friends come over? What if I just have to go?

You cannot punish people for quitting, especially since it can involve real life situations, which are more important than a silly MM game.

I thought of this before too and never really saw a problem it could create. It would be an easy fix.

The thing is that you shouldn't start a game if you have to go and if friends come over quit, it's a penalty for the people who quit because they are losing.

There is a penalty already, its losing EXP, but no one cares about that for the most part. I would be fine with losing a level cause I quit, it makes sense.

And friends could randomly come over, or something could arise that is more important that getting a 30 in team slayer.

i like the drop-in drop-out idea. it just needs to be fixed so the guy dropping-in doesnt get penalized for joining a losing game. how would you like it if you are on your 50 game and you end up joining a game where your team is losing 30-5 or 45-30 or something really bad. also if you quit you shouldnt be allowed to play on matchmaking for 5 minutes or until the game ends (whichever is longer)
there just seems to be too many problems with these ideas for them too be implemented with our current ranking system

In that case the penalty is not severe enough, quiting should be nasty enough to not make you do it.

Well i mean, i would feel like i deserved to lose a level. Not that its just something i brush off like EXP. I honestly would hate it as I got higher up and closer to a 50 or whatever and I wouldn't want to quit.. Its more severe then the current one tho.

what about disconnections or host-booting or emergencies, you cant make penalties that severe in case the person had a legit reason to quit out

  • 11.21.2009 9:00 AM PDT

If the game doesn't allow me to play for 5-10 minutes because I quit then I'll just switch over to another game. A lot of people would do the same. That is why Bungie won't do it. This has been brought up in the past when Halo 3 was in development.

Yeah thats the problem with severe penaltys, and they can't make it where "If you lose connection you don't get a penalty" cause then if someone wanted to quit, they just unplug the wire from the back of the xbox.

Every time I read something that I think is the stupidest thing ever and something can't replace it, something manages to replace it.

I don't think this would work as where would the guest join from?

This sounds like a very good idea. This would make the gameplay much more fair. KUDOS.
