I buy Halo for the campaign.

You sir (OP) fail to realise this.
There are people here who actually were onboard of the Halo-train since the beginning. And in the beginning there WAS a great story and an awesome campaign. Something that had us hooked, something that made Halo popular. Multiplayer was far less important.
Everbody who claims Halo has either no story or nobody buys it for the campaign is one of those people who came in with Halo 2 purely for the multiplayer (in my honest opinion, those people are not the real fans...sorry to say that)
I want to play the campaign, I want to know what happens. First thing I do when I get a new (Halo) game is play the campaign.

I really think its a shame the current generation of kids playing games is so focused on multiplayer only when it comes to certain genres. There is nothing wrong with singleplayer campaigns, I just hope it doesn't become a trend to just forget about singleplayer completely "because nobody want it"
