Subject: The AR sound

poop

(sorry about possible miss-spellings or bad grammar)

In Halo CE, the AR sound was badass, It was loud and heavy, and it felt like you where firing a minigun or something. In Halo 3, it sounded more like popping corn kernels (well, not really, but whatever...)

Halo CE: link (could'nt find a better video...)

Halo 3: link

seriously, no offence to bungie, but that is really lame. They should bring back the sound they used for Halo CE.

Halo 3 AR sucks ass.

That's the end of the thread people, go home. Show's over. Circus has left. New President's been elected.

Go away.

But in all seriousness, who the freakin' hell approved the AR to sound like that? Who in their right mind would let that pass cuts?

Who the friggen' hell thinks that's what a gun sounds like?

=)

"No man remains quite what he was when he recognizes himself."

My gamertag is Phynkesia. Remember this name, for you'll be shooting at it.

The AR was weaker in Halo 3, so they probably thought it should also sound weaker. Anyway, it feels too weak. Even more if you play without controler vibration.

Hi, I am the White Mamba Overlord of our group the ODSM.
We are not a clan, and we don't play the game for competition. Instead we play for fun, and to hang out with friends. If you are interested in joining go to our group homepage and sign up. Membership is open.
We are mostly a Halo 3: ODST group for help with achievements and stuff, but we also will play a lot of Halo 3 matchmaking.

You do realize that they are two different ARs right? The Halo CE AR was the MA5B and Halo 3s was the MA5C.

I'm sure that the MA5B will be in Halo Reach for timeline reasons.

EDIT:

Halo CE AR

Halo 3 AR

It would make sense, indeed.

I always thought the problem was that the guy in charge is a musician who can't play video games.

How can you be passionate about games when you can't play them. He obviously has a thing for music(and his own ego).

Marty generally fails in adding to notch atmosphere like games like Bio Shock, Halo CE, Metroid Prime, or RE4.

He also falls short in the general sound effects department. The covenant sound effects have been falling off since the first Halo. The human weapon only ever sounded okay. The RB6 and CoD games kill in that department.

They need a dedicated sound effects guy. A guy who puts sound effects #1.

Edit: They don't "need" a dedicated sound effects guy. But it would help improve the lack luster sound effects.

Hey, maybe the sound effects would no longer be drowned out by Marty's often misplaced and inappropriate music.

For sound effects, your right, for music, wrong. Mary's music is some of the best in the gaming industry. Halo 3: ODST for example, the music that played at night? It truly made you feel alone. And that's what he was aiming for.

I didn't say I dislike the music. I just think its often too much music. I want to hear the world I walking around in.

A very common musician cliche, "less is more".

Oh be quiet. The silenced pistol and SMG sound fantastic, as does the hammer.

The hammer, is, without a doubt, the most satisfying sounding weapon there.

The silenced weapons sound fine. They are nothing outstanding.

What about the other bazillion sounds that are avg. at best?

They human weapons are all out done by both the RB6 and CoD games.

Carbine-weak sound
Needler-Sounded better in Halo CE
PR-Sounded better in Halo CE
AR-Sounded better in Halo CE
Shield/Overshield charge effect-Had a stronger sound in Halo CE
Lagg Gun-Sounded better in Halo CE
Gravity lift-Sounded better in Halo2
Teleport-Had a stronger sound in Halo CE
Ghost plasma guns-Sounded better in Halo CE
Shotgun-Avg.
Br-Good. Improved in Halo 3. Out done by RB6 and CoD.
Frags.Avg. They sound more forceful in RB6.
SMG-improved big time in Halo 3.
Weapon reloads-most sound weak. If you have ever reloaded a gun in real life you will no doubt agree.
Warthogg-improved through out the series.
Covenant drop ships-The Halo CE ships sounded awesome. The Phantoms in Halo 2 sounded great. They sound much weaker in Halo 3 and ODST.

I think that Bad Company has some good sound effects. All of the guns (Assault Rifles in particular) have a nice click and snap to them when you reload. They succeed in making the guns feel powerful, Halo falls short in this regard.

Positive vibes.

I see what you mean. Yeah I think the AR should sound like it did in Halo:CE

  • 11.22.2009 8:53 AM PDT

I'm someone you knew, maybe even were friends with.....but from another time...another place.

The Mayans were the most epic trolls EVAR.

Yeah, the AR in H3 sounds funny, but the rest of the weapons sound awesome, like the Carbine or the PR. I don't get how they sound 'weak'

Oh and I LOVE the SMG's sound. Just felt like puttin that out there.

  • 11.22.2009 8:54 AM PDT

What about the Halo CE pistol?

that gun had an awesome reload noise.

I agree they need to fix all the weapon noises in reach.

Listen to the PR in Halo CE. It had a deep and punchy thud to it. From Halo 2 on, it has lost the depth and punchyness(that's not actually a word).

The reloads in Halo CE are better for sure. They had more detail. The needler was great in CE. Halo 3 has very avg. sounding reloads. Not enough "snap".

and how!

I like the MA5C in terms of how it performs, but the MA5B sounded much better.

By that I mean how they perform in multiplayer, in campaign the MA5B was perfect, but you were better off throwing crayons in mutliplayer.

It is my latest cultural research project! By randomly saying LOLWIN to semi-funny replies on the Halo 3 forum, I hypothesize that a temperary self-esteem boost will be present.

And once they read this, they will be a little worse off than before.

I hope they have a variety. I would like all versions of all weapons in reach. It would make it much more interesting.
