Subject: Hitboxes shouldn't matter

Ok so for the last few weeks i've been studying hitboxes, and i've discovered that this, along with Recon, ODST, and the BR, are the number 1 source of halo players whining.

Hitboxes should not be a factor in deciding which character you choose, nor should they even be worried about. Hitboxes just limit the amount of character sizes we could have for multiplayer, and people are just relishing in not having a change to the halo series. Change is good, and if you don't like change what do you do? You go back to dual wielding needlers in Halo 2.

For instance, let's say you could play as brutes in multiplayer in Halo Reach--Naturally brutes would be slower but have more melee, right? Yet, you guys are whining because their hitboxes would be too large and easy to kill. There's a solution to this: 1. make the hitbox equal to spartans and elites, and 2. Just leave it as is. One of the reasons we have multiple characters is so we choose one we like, not just for astetics. Its stupid how in multiplayer elites and spartans are the same size, when in reality elites are taller than spartans by at least a foot.

My recent thread told me that female and male spartans would be the same size due to the nature of how they were 'created', but at the same time it would be nice to have slimmer characters for matchmaking. If you guys are worrying about hitboxes, you must not be that good at halo. If someone is harder to hit, then good for them. You'll just have to get better. It's not cheating, they just have an advantage. I seriously think the game is too balanced.

Obviously this game isn't like Super Smash Bros where each character has their pros and cons, and Bungie's main focus is obviously on weapon shooting, and not the character design. However, if that was genuinely the case, we shouldn't even have elites, because looking different but being the same size is really just pointless.

Feel free to leave all kinds of comments--i don't care who bashes me in this thread. It'd be better for me to learn some stuff than to get bashed and not learn

I agree that it would be cool to have different character models have different hit boxes, but unfortunately this is the exact thing that Bungie has tried so hard to maintain. Giving other players an advantage just doesn't work realistically. It might look good on paper but once it is actually implemented into the game I think you will be disappointed.

Signatures are for squares.

No.

That is all.

90% of teens today would die if Myspace was completely destroyed. If you are one of the 10% that would be laughing, copy and paste this to your signature.

I think this is a good idea. If you dont want a disadvantage then dont be the brute/ elite.

Bungie has a huge fan base that they have to appease, therefore they try to maintain a balanced game so that everyone has fun. The character models need to stay as they are, and there arn't going to be any brutes in Halo: Reach to begin with, it would break canon.

Keep all attributes the same but make the hit boxes fit the character's so there's not complaining about classes. If you're really -blam!- about the choices of people, allow any character models in social, but force one character model in ranked. Maybe force all spartans, but if you wanted to get detailed and overly-complicated, the game could search by character models.

throwning snowballs at cars is like doing a bell ditch. The end result is basically the same: sprinting away from the large man exiting his car who yells profanities, hiding behind a house, and watching as his car patrols the street, waiting to murder you.

Asking the flood for dating advice is like you going up to a bunch of starving Africans and debating the pros and cons of the bacon roll vs the double cheeseburger.

Some one who stands for nothing shall fall for everything.

But then everybody would choose the smallest player model just because it is harder to hit.

Yup.

Hitboxes MUST be the same, it is an absolute necessity.

I agree with the OP. This is one reason I think AvP3 game will be awesome.

Having Brutes in multiplayer just seams flawed; the game should be as balanced as possible. I've been playing MW2 recently, and I can tell you straight up that it's not very balanced. This is exacly what Bungie strives for in their games, and if they were to give that up, it would be a huge disappointment in the long run.

War is never balanced. One will have the better troops, one will have the better equipment, one will have the better battle experience. That is what makes MW2 great, it's the one game that shows how real war is like. No other game has simulated more realistically than MW2. We don't ask Bungie to be like this, but we do like the idea of some aspects of that game and others be modified and implanted in Reach. To evolve the game and make it feel&plan differently.

You can't have the hit boxes be a different proportion to the character, you couldn't use a Spartan hit box for a Brute. You'd end up shotting at the Brute at certain areas and not getting a hit. That would piss off a lot more people. I think the only problem people have with Elites is the fact that you can barely hit their head from behind. That's just how the character is designed, unfortunately.

The hit boxes need to be proportioned to the character and the characters should be designed in such a way that doesn't limit the ability to critically hit them (e.g. head shot) from any, reasonable, angle.

You could have different sized players, but their attributes would have to be adjusted accordingly. This isn't all too different from what you suggested, but you can easily look at Team Fortress 2 as an example of players that vary greatly in size.

Reach is about the Covenant overpowering humans, and the game needs to show that they are overpowered by actually being overpowered. If it's all balanced, then it'll be a breeze. There's nothing more rewarding than overcoming a foe that is more powerful than you.

it's true that Halo games have all weapons available to all people at all times, which allows a balanced aspect and for any team to have a chance at winning. However, if it is to be truly balanced, the shotgun's clip needs to be reduced, and elites need to be taken out of matchmaking.

it wont break canon--there have always been brutes--they just weren't a big part of the covenant as the elites were, until they replaced them in Halo 2

  • 11.22.2009 1:36 PM PDT

I say keep it the way it is. Sure war isn't suppose to be balanced, but a game should be. We have 2 characters to choose from, heads are realativly in the same spot, the elite is abit bigger but its head is harder to hit (in my book).

And the elites have the neck glitch which is abit unfair. They had an advantage, thats why everyone whines about them.

Im sure you whine when you get a head shot on xbox live with the sniper and it doesnt count. This glitch can happen on LAN, or even on one xbox.

Male and female Spartans wouldn't be the same size, just look at the Reach banner. You can obviously tell the second one to the left is a female Spartan.

have you not seen Halo Legends? The Spartan in the first episode is a female, yet she towers over the ODST.

That's just idiotic, the idea of making a game unbalanced on purpose! The only reason people play online games is to be challenged at defeating an equal opponent, not to get lucky.

I am a Halo 3 Failure.

No one does have a hitbox advantage, people just think Elite's do, because the general population is pretty stupid, if you haven't noticed.

I don't think either have an 'advantage' but they are both different, whether you prefer Elites or Spartans, one will always be easier or harder to snipe.
