I'm certifiable.

The forum here was called Tru7h and Reconcilliation when I first popped by, though I didn't subscribe until the New Hawtness started and the forum transmogrified into the Underground.

-- Steve didn't learn to navigate Bungie.net too well until the New Hawtness, either, so his reminiscing is going to be a tad short.

This is a thread for some of the older members of the column to put stuff they remember from a long time ago...

When groups were called chapters...
When I was active around here. ; )
When Yoozel was cool =P
When there was a drop down box to quick jump to your chapters! (SO much easier. ; ))
The new 'hawtness' came in, and at first, just about everyone hated it?
When there was a tonne of polls, all pitting differant foods versus each other?

Add your own. =)

The only things on the forum during late July/early August were ILB.. and the MASSIVE spam attacks later in the year..

  • 07.10.2005 8:35 PM PDT

I remember when there were few/no Halo 2 complaints.

Well, I have been reading the forums for awhile now, I'd say about a year or so. One thing I do miss were the massive I Love Bees topics and that huge topic that had well over 1000 posts. And yes, it was pretty peaceful (as peaceful as these forums get) before everyone started complaining about Halo 2, what with the 100+ topics about Halo 1>Halo 2, Halo 2 is for noobs, etc. It really got annoying.

ODST: Sniper. Third floor, left.
ODST 2: Here. *raises sniper rifle* Lemme give em' my welcome to Earth gift basket.

BAD@$$!

I miss ILB so much...ya i know, nostalgia...but just last week, i burned all the ILBs on an MP3 CD so i could listen to them. It rules... my favorites are the last ones where the covenant come and the sirens go off..

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I remember when the chapter founders forums were extremely active and many Bungie employees dropped by, when the septagon was part of chapter founders, when chapters had discounts in the Bungie store, when Halo 2 was but a distant vision and we all thought it would never come. (and as fun as the game is, I don't think it was as fun as we all hoped. It's still a good game, don't get me wrong)

Ach! Was ist los?

For me, the good old days were back when I looked at ye olde B.net's Myth theme and wondered why they didn't update or at least rotate it.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

When groups were called chapters...

A chapter is a type of group.

Group: The term group refers a member controlled micro-site within Bungie.net - either a "Chapter" or a "Clan". Currently these two types of groups offer the same functionality but over time each will have subtle differences. The 7th Column is made up of thousands of user-made groups, each with their own unique content. Each group has its own news, forums, resources and membership rules. Members can do various things within your group based on their permission level, which is set by a group administrator.

Chapter: A chapter is a type of group that's not a clan. In most cases, chapters are casual hangouts for people looking to set up LAN parties, discuss similar interests, etc.. A chapter is not tied directly to Halo 2 on Xbox Live but can center around just about anything else.

Yeah, but they were only called chapters before, which is what he is talking about.

I remember the threaded view and how it worked because there were only a few people who posted on a regular basis. And there was even a search feature, but it was used for more than searching for your posts.

As one might surmise from my join-date, I have no old memories of the forums.

But I do remember the lack of forums, back when the soapbox was an active pulpit and Hamish was the maintainer of much mystery. Good times... good times...

I think when I originally joined back in late '03, the first top story I ever read was the one about herds of dinosaurs in pre-Halo 1. 'The Origin Of Halo' 'twas called, me thinks. Yeah, back when people besides Sketch & Frankie posted like Dave & Lorraine. And then the chapter layout...
