Beign first of all a pc gamer, I would have bought MW2 on pc and not consoles (better competition/customisation, and I know it's not on topic, but mice/keyboard>gamepad, it's impossible to argue, considering mouse's got no deadzone). But oups, pc version is not different than console, so I happen to save $60 (plus taxes).
So, Halo was probably the most anticipated game ever, but it come in the year where the most quality shooters came out at the same time (HL2,H2,Doom3,Far Cry, all within 8 months), even tough 3 of these games were on pc, so it might have hurt a bit on sales.
So, yeah, Halo 2 was the most anticipated game ever. And Half-Life 2 second.
I'm surprised about MW2's sales (plus it's got a crappy singleplayer), but anyway, like Einstein said:
"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. "
