Subject: When are they shutting down Halo 2 online?

Okay I read that they had shutdown Halo 2 online but I was just playing it 2 minutes ago! So if someone will please enlighten me when or possibly if they are still shutting it down. Thank you

Nothing has been announced yet, and the entire idea that it's getting shut down is all speculation at this point. For all we know, there aren't any plans to shut the game down at all.

yup.

and just to guess, they probably dont want to pay server fees for such a small population of gamers.

As of right now there are no plans to shut down Halo 2. If they ever decide they are going to, you would see something big about it on the main page of Bungie. It's their game so they will tell us when/if it is going offline. I say again, there are no plans as of yet to shut down Halo 2.

Thank god I was really worried they would make such a dumb -Blam!- mistake I really love Halo 2 online.

They might shut it down due to the fact that less and less people are playing it.

Halo 2 will die when the population is too low to find a game.

Servers are not, nor will they ever be shut down. Especially since it most likely uses the same servers as almost everything else on XBL like Halo 3.

I doubt it will ever shut down, at least until there's still enough people playing it, as it's not a couple of master servers that really cost that much to keep up, I mean, they're already up, you just have bandwith/electricity bills to pay.

Also, don't listen to rumors, they made no sense anyway, as with the reason they gave (friend list>100 people), you would have to shut down online custom games as well too, not only matchmaking.

I doubt Halo 2 even has it's own servers, in fact I'm pretty Microsoft has a ton of servers that are just used for everything. Remember when Halo 3 came out? Remember how there was so many people playing Halo 3 that they had to temporarily shut down Windows Live, so you couldn't log in on Bnet or Xbox.com or anything else which used Windows Live? So I don't think this is even a possible problem.

yeah, they probably have many servers dedicated to smaller games such as halo 2.

Theres nothing to shut down. Xbox live is based on p2p-central hybrid. All xbox game live functionality is run in a huge server farm a bit like cloud computing, and so is xbox live itself along with MS whole MSN/windows live initiative.

To shut down halo 2 youd have to shut down xbox live, along with all of MSN probably, not gonna happen.

Thats not to say they might not shut down the legacy xbox live one day, in which case halo 2 along with all other original games will be offline.

Yeah, but there's probably a master server related only to halo 2 somewhere.

I like this forum, but sometimes I wonder about some of the people here. Don't you think if Halo 2 were to be shut down Bungie would have made some sort of big deal about it on the front page?

Hello! I'm a male!

They aren't shutting it down. People just started jumping to conclusions when they couldn't connect. Bungie themselves even said they aren't shutting it down. If they don't officially post it themselves it never happened.

Most likely , that is a good point
