I posted several videos on youtube that may assist you in obtaining the flaming skull you receive when getting high firefight scores on legendary. see here for the 1st one (out of 7). Unfortunately, a similar thread was locked several days ago because someone thought I had bumped my topic by responding to peoples questions. Anyway, below is a summary of the last thread that provide some tips on how to survive legendary mode on Lost Platoon. You might want to watch the videos first as I refer to them sometimes in the tips.
Every time you hear the word reinforcements, head to where I lase the wraith. Target the wraith while the phantom is still there and it will try and shoot at you and in the process damage its shields. This makes it easier to kill it with one laser shot. If you wait too long, the phantom will leave and you have to hit it exactly right to get a kill with one shot. However, if you don't kill it, don't waste another shot. Just use your chopper and shoot it a little.
Always have at least one laser shot available for each wave. Don't waste them on the other wraith unless you have extra. Its a -blam!- on the chieftan round when you are out of lasers and both wraiths land during the round.
If you watched my films, you can see that jacking the chopper is pretty easy. Just practice doing it a little. During the 3rd round, if he hits you with the chopper bullets, -blam!- slap him (or the chopper) before you jack it. You will get your health back. Sometimes he will disappear behind the wall after you jack it (in the film a couple of times) From experience, it is easier to wait until the chieftan round and kill him with a hammer - especially after set four when mythic is on. Also, beware, if you leave the area, sometimes he will come out and steal a chopper if it is lying around near him.
If you deviate much from what I did, you will probably die. I have tried alot of methods and this is the only one that worked. If you go too far forward from where I played, you will piss the grunts off and you will die in a barrage of fuel rod gun bullets in the later sets.
Another key is blocking off the stairs. It forces all of the enemy to come to where you are waiting on them. They can't come in behind you. Beware - the Hunters will knock the choppers off the stairs. Try to get them back as quickly as possible during the later sets or you will be quickly surrounded and barraged by plasma throwing grunts.
Speaking of grunts. Whenever you see them (after set 4 especially), jump off your chopper and headshot them. They can stick your chopper from a mile away and at least one is always carrying a fuel rod gun in each group. You get more points that way too.
Keep a chopper under the stairs where the warthog spawns and make sure it is facing out. That way, when you are low on health, you can rush in between waves, get a health pack, and be on your way without having to worry about turning your chopper around. Don't forget to fix it when the round is over. Also, move the frigging warthog out of the way somewhere. I never use it except in the beginning sometimes to shoot a brute off the chopper.
At the end of each round, keep one enemy alive - preferably a jackal with a shield. You can take as long as you like positioning the choppers and such.
Always die during bonus rounds. You spawn with full ammo and your killing sprees will reset. I had something like 17 invincibles in the game - they are worth quite a few points in the later rounds. Also, as you see in the film, park your chopper right outside the spawn point prior to the bonus round so that you can jump on, rush to the laser and be back in position prior to the wraith dropping.
use the back button to watch for the enemy coming around the corners. If you just drive around it without checking - you will most likely get stuck and die.
Sometimes the enemy will be coming at you at the same time the chopper does. Unless you really need it, just splatter the chopper. I have a good technique to do that. Watch my gameplay in later sets.
You can boost over the rocks behind the spawn point to get to the alley. This is important to know in later sets when you die. I would suggest practicing it some. Hang a right out of the spawn and go around the building. Boost up and over the rocks in front of you. It is pretty much suicide to try to go left through whatever is standing there. At best, because of blackeye, you will be beeping the rest of the round due to low shields.
Don't hang out in the spawn point after you respawn in the later sets. Leave immediately or you (and all your choppers in there) will die again in a barrage of plasmas and fuel rod blasts.
Don't park the chopper over the area where you spawn. You will spawn in the other building if you do. I always keep a couple in the other building in case that happens. ( it can happen if you wait in the spawn too long and all of your choppers are in pieces everywhere from being blown up). I always keep a max of 4 choppers in there- two in each of the back corners facing out.
Oh yeah, it takes about a full day (24 hours) of actually playing to get that many points (it took me that long anyway). I got it over the course of a 3 day weekend by just pausing the game to do whatever. Praying that your xbox doesn't overheat, that your power doesn't go out, that you don't lose your internet connection or that bungie doesn't decide to do an update during that time period probably can't hurt (the update thing happened to me in an earlier attempt - I was only at around 3 million though). I had around 15 lives left when I quit out at set 18. I was afraid to keep playing due to the aforementioned.
