Is halo pc 5.1? I have a 2, 4, and 6 channel sound card, making me able to have 5.1 sound. I can watch DVD's in 5.1 on my computer, and listen to music, but when I play halo pc it has no sound from the center or rear speakers.

EDIT: Ok, now when I get into a vehicle, I can't hear the "clean sound" of the engine, it's very low and deep, instead of normal. I adjusted the high level of sound to medium and low, and it still won't work. When I'm on foot, everything is crystal clear, it's just the engines. What do I do?

No clue. Perhaps halo cant handle 5.1 after all.

But even if halo wont support it, be happy you have more than 1 speaker (ive got a laptop).

Enable EAX in the sound options. I don't know if it has 5.1 surround sound but I know it has 3d positional effects.

this is directly off of halo pc's FAQ on bungie.net

Q

So what's new in the PC version of Halo?
A

There are several new features have been added to Halo that greatly enhance the multiplayer experience. The core of the single player campaign (the story line, cinematics, scripts, music/sounds, AI, physics, etc) have been faithfully translated for the PC with everything you would expect from a PC game (hi-res graphics, mouse/keyboard support, Creative 5.1 EAX support, etc..)

so, according to this, halo should support 5.1 surround sound if you turn on EAX, like Chewy said.

it does support eax and 5.1. how do i know? cause thats how i run it :)

nothing compares to being able to hearing things sneaking up behind you and being able to find the elite thats hiding by the direction of his voice. also if you make noise in a small room sometimes it echoes. they didnt do the eax very well but like in the maw all the voices of the aliens echo in small corridors. thats one of the things eax does...

anyway, yeah it works.

EDIT:

i dont think the music uses the rear speakers, so it sometimes can be hard to tell if it works. my solution: toss a nade and turn around to see if it sounds right

does EAX help any at all when using a 2 speaker setup? does it try to create a "fake" surround sound feeling?
