People, remember, this is a forum, not your AIM account. Please talk in full sentences so we dont have to pry sentences apart.

Perhaps you have extra programs running at the same time. Im no expert on hardware specs, but they look fine to me, my guess is that it could be background stuff clogging up the RAM, processor and whatnot. Open up the task manager and see what else is going on.

here's a few general things to take note of, may not apply to gaming only:

*close you instant messenger when you're not using it. I have MSN Messenger, and it is usually in the top 5 of using up RAM when i sort my processes by RAM size in the task manager.

*scan for viruses/spyware regularly. any of these processes take up system resources.

*Defragment your hard drive. Over time, files get split and scattered all over the hard drive, making the hard drive have to work harder to find several parts of a file. Defragment at least once a month if you don't delete and add files a lot, and whenever you install a new program. I "analyze" my hard drive's fragmentation every few days or so.

*Uninstall programs you don't think you will use for a while. I think windows has to load something like a list of installed programs, which can slow your system down. You can gain some hard drive space back this way too.

* prevent programs from executing on start up. In the start menu, click "run". type "msconfig" and hit enter. on the "general" tab, make sure "selective startup" is selected. go to the "startup" tab. uncheck boxes next to any programs that you recognize and know that you don't use. click ok and restart your pc to apply the changes. You may only see 50 or so processes in the task manager, but there are really several thousand that aren't shown.

*here is a good website that can analyzes your pc and internet connection, and makes suggestions that can help tune up you pc. It even has an online virus scanner. PCPITSTOP. This website has been recommended by PCWORLD magazine, and i use it regularly. It is a very good site.

Funny that you should ask this question because this EXACT same thing has been happening to me in CSS (it ran crappy and I'd get the split second pauses). I would also get the pauses in COD. Anyway, just a couple of hours ago, I did what the guy above me is telling you to do. I went and closed a bunch of programs that were running in the background. Now CSS, COD, and BF2 (which also was giving me trouble) run completely smooth. You have no idea how frustrated I've been since this has been troubling me for months.

BTW, I've got a P4 2.8 Ghz, 1024 MB of ram, and a Radeon 9800 Pro

Well Im not a retard I know that I need to do all that crap I do it all the time..

Then give us the impression that you arent a retard by
(1) typing in full sentences so we can better understand, and therefore help you
(2) not bumping. The last couple of hours is known to be a stagnant period. Very few users are online at that time. Besides, if people arent responding to a thread, theres probably a good reason why. In this case, its because everybody is out of ideas. Be patient!

Calling other peoples advice "crap you do all the time," is not the most encouraging response if you want more help.

Rereading your comments, what I REALLY think is going on is...nothing. Perhaps your computer is simply loading the next checkpoint. Besides, even if it is just a split second of lag, its nothing you should really sweat about.

If me15er is wrong, then my first guess would be that it is a new virus or spyware that cleverly disguises itself as a legitimate process. Open the running processes list and google anything you can't identify. Occasionally viruses and / or spyware will use the names of legitimate programs or even imbed themselves within them. Kepp updating your antivirus and spyware removal for the next couple of weeks and run scans periodically. I'm willing to bet that you'll find something.

You haven't installed anything that would do it, eh? SP2? Autmatic Windows Update running in the background. Make sure you cover all your bases, because this doesn't sound like a simple problem.

What resolution are you running them at? That card isn't crap but its not top of the line, it can't handle higher resolutions with full settings on some of the newer games.

freezes for one split second? how about freezing on and off every few seconds; that's what i have to put up with while playing the half-life 2 demo. One second isn't gonna hurt you.

My advice is crap? You wanted help, and i gave it to you. Most people that have these problems don't know about closing the extra programs and maintainence.
