My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

Pretty cool. The fan shield would be interesting but it doesn't really fir the brute character.

I miss playing Halo with my friends.

How many different animations did the Brute have for Halo 3?

This is a great insight, I'm looking to become a 3D animator myself and I love looking at the different techniques used and the processes people go through in the industry. Thanks Bungie very nice interview <3

This is really cool, but I would like to see Bungie move onto Motion capture, or have a combination of this current process, and mo-cap.

THIS SUMMER...

I found this interview really interesting, as I am going into a similar course of study for college (I've been accepted to Drexel University majoring in Digital Media). I liked the progression from words to sketches to pre-renderings to final in game product.

Lets Be FRIENDS!!!! .... Fine lets kill each other.

I am currently 17 and have been taking all computer classes I can get. I have always had a fascination with all aspect required to make a successful game. I was wondering though how important is drawing talent in computer animation. I mean I've made animations with programs like Alice, Flash and some other half ass game making programs and have made some pretty satisfying stuff. But when it comes to a pen and paper well I can make a stick figure and maybe a rock but that's it. If drawing is an important skill to have for animation how can I improve myself in that aspect for I can one day work my magic at in the bowels of Bungie....

I have found this as a very enlightening interview. I'm seventeen and have spent three internships working as an environment artist for an airport consulting company. Normally, I spend my time just exploring game environments with my jaw dropped in amazement at what wonders can be woven. This has shown me the wonders that come in the small details of behavior.

Hoy

Hope to see more articles like this. I find it extremely interesting to see parts of the game making process.

I'm hoping my input on that survey a month or 2 ago was a factor for an article like this.

I'm also hoping the next one is real technical.

My dream job is to be an animator so this interveiw was very interesting for me. I really liked the idea of that fan shield on the chieftan. It reminded me of a similar idea I had when I was chattin' with some friends about game plots and idea's. I really look forward to seeing more of your work in Halo Reach.

Nice! I've already done a half-dozen games or so in the original 2-D style but can't wait to move into the 3-D realm!

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

Those animation images were pretty cool, could the brute ones possibly show a brute armor design for Reach?

YAY! This is what I love most. Get into what people at Bungie are doing. Do more of this on the podcast please. Or just have one actually.

"Seems to me you should spend less time on that article and more time working on that novel you've been working on!!!"

This was really awesome you guys, thanks Bill O'Brien!! It inspires a padawan animator such as myself. So are those models used in the actual game, or is there further edges and definition added later? I mean, from what was there, you could probably take it into mudbox or zbrush and give it some more detail, but perhaps you guys subdivide it some more before throwing it into game?

Those were just simple 2D and 3D animations.

This interview has gotten me interested in 2D and 3D animation. We did a small assignment drawing 2D models in my Graphic design class. I didn't really find it that interesting, but seeing how they unfold in the end makes the work seem fun. Thank You.

You guys really should have kept some of the animations you cooked up, I especially loved watching E' Tu Brute Vidoc and seeing the dismemberment animations from the Brute ripping the arms off a marine and the Elite with the dual swords lopping off the feet of another Brute. I laughed so hard when I watched that drone animation because it reminded me of something from the Wizard of Oz and I had to agree that scrapping the brute shield was a good idea not just because of their shield system but the way it looked, not very Brute-like. I would have thought up of something more like the shield of an Uruk-Hai from Lord of the Rings. Well that's all I really had to say here people.

That's what I was thinking.

And I haven't seen Drones carry off any Marines since Halo 3's Crow's Nest level.

Would be interesting if that makes it into Reach.
