Subject: A Certain Sense of Movement

I prefer señor Legendary Member.

Roadhouse.
I have seen the powers at hand and I can honestly say I am not ready

Sweet interview.

Any way we could get those animated gif's to be avatars?

Neat!

I love animations, they never fail to pique my interest. I especially liked the Drone one. The Brute shield would have made a very cool addition. :)

Ditto, i like to try and spy all the frames, where the creatures are in each frame. Of course that's very hard as it's moving at 30fps but i still enjoy doing that wherever animation is.

I am currently 17 and have been taking all computer classes I can get. I have always had a fascination with all aspect required to make a successful game. I was wondering though how important is drawing talent in computer animation. I mean I've made animations with programs like Alice, Flash and some other half ass game making programs and have made some pretty satisfying stuff. But when it comes to a pen and paper well I can make a stick figure and maybe a rock but that's it. If drawing is an important skill to have for animation how can I improve myself in that aspect for I can one day work my magic at in the bowels of Bungie....

It depends upon your technique of getting it from concept to animation. I would probably do better with the whole mirror/video camera and the words, to drawing, to animation. So think about how you get your ideas and turn them into animations.

Pretty cool. The fan shield would be interesting but it doesn't really fir the brute character.

I could easily see the fan shield aesthetic working. Especially if it looked sharp and or crude to fit with their cruel nature.

Words can only ask so much of our imagination. If well-wrought, they can only hope to conspire and create the hint of kinetic energy to fuel the mind's engines, but they cannot breathe life into characters -- at least not in a video game.

I couldn't disagree with that statement more. Through the words of various characters in many games has their soul been laid bare. I speak of dialogue mainly but other uses exist.

Don't be irreplaceable; if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

Amazing interview. Liked the animated GIF's :)

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Very cool read indeed.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this interview, thank you very much for taking the time to do it! I'd love to hear more from the animation team in the future, it is my favorite topic.

Halo: Out with a whimper
A fan made kick ass 2D Halo.

"The crunch on Halo 2 was, 'Oh my god, we're f***ed. We're all going to die.'" ~ Chris Carney

The brute with the fan shield looks pretty awesome, such a shame it got cut.

I can just imagine a brute deploying its fan shield when under heavy fire and then charging me with the shield still up and when he closes in on me, swings the hammer round with one hand for a hefty blow. I'd love to see more unused animations in future =)

Good read. I love the buggers in Halo 2, and their... buggery? The Brutes dodge animation was also more logical than a dodge roll imo, but the lack of shields and that huge animation time gap made them a little too easy to headshot on Halo 3 when throwing grenades.
