i've had my dimension 8400 since christmas. I thought i'd open the case and check the amount of dust. There was like a 2mm thick layer of dust on the power supply vent and this other vent-like thing. I got the dust off, and the other vent-like thing looked more like radiator fins. I also saw two "copper pipe" like things in the fins. The fins were located pretty close to the processor and chassis fan. In fact, i think the fins were right over the processor. Does this mean my Dell might have a simple form of liquid cooling?

I'll open the chassis again later, and take a pic. Does anyone know where to upload pics?

ok, i did not do a thorough dusting, i just pulled off a layer of dust from the fins with my fingers. here's the image of the processor and some of the fins.

here's an image of the rear of the chassis, showing the chassis fan and green enclosing around the fins.

EDIT: nevermind. I figured out it was just a giant heatsink when i was vacuuming the interior. I can't believe that's needed to cool the processor. no wonder people despise the prescott pentium 4's.

It's not water cooled. It's a heatsink with heatpipes. However, there is liquid inside of the pipes. It's no big deal, heatpipes are pretty mainstream.

Domo....

this thing is huge compared to what i had on my last computer. The heatsink on my old cpu is probably no bigger than the one on the graphics card that you can see somewhat on my new computer.
