I voted. Didnt want to add to the flame war that is 1 v 2. But as you asked people to voice their opinion I shall.
I do not think that they should re-release halo 1. I think it would be a waste of resources and a foolish financial move. Bungie is a company far above and beyond halo 1. Be it Myth, Marathon, Oni, and whatever they are working on next. To ask them to stop anything that they are doing to cater to the desires of any group, no matter how large, is similar to telling you favourite band to stop playing the music they want to and change to exactly your style simply because you want them to.
Secondly, I think that it would make sense financially. Yes, Halo1 was a hugely popular game. Yes, many fans would love to see it re-released. However, to make the most sense the game would have to be re-released on the 360, which uses very different hardware and thus would require large amounts of time. And for a game to be profitable it would have to sell a million (estimate) units. Which a 5 year old game (with 5 year old graphics) would most likely not get.
As for your opinions of halo 1 v halo 2 they are valid opinions. Note : I do not agree with them, but they are valid in that they are opinions and ones that Bungie chose not to take. As for my opinions I think that a game that lets "even the most average joe can get in right away" is a good thing. The alternative is a game that "you must spend months to even be decent at" which only appeals to young teens that have the time to spend, ie : not jobs, no familes, etc.
Personally (as someone that played halo 1 almost since release and played every weeked till the halo 2 release date, which I got at 12.01) I think that halo 2 relies on a different skillset than halo1. Not less skill, not more, just different. Halo 1 requires you to have computer like aiming skills, reflexes. Halo 2 requires teamwork, weapon management, group management, map navigation. Again : my opinion.
