When I try to play Halo Online or Offline it crashes. The game stops an error message pops up that says gathering exception data. Once that is done it says it's sending an error report to Microsoft and it only works 50% of the time. Just in case you ask, here is some information about the stuff on my computer.

I have Windows XP SP2, An ATI RADEON 9200 graphics card, I have AMD Athlon xp, and Catalyst 5.6. I don't understand how I am getting this error. I have all the updates and patches and everything.

I don't wanna know that I wasted my money here, I can't be the only one that has this problem. I tried going to the support site, but I saw nothing about exception data.

exception data is when something the game doesn't expect happens, (in a more technical way, there's and increased number of variables)

see if a re-install helps, it usually does.

I have tried a Re-install, but doing it a second time shouldn't hurt.

I just re-installed and realized I did something wrong when I first re-installed it. I'm pretty sure this will work.

nope, it didn't. now the program won't even start, it skips right to the exception data thing. I un-installed it. I suppose I'll go to the halo support site...You think a problem like this would at least get some kind of answer.

Please tell me youre not saying Obatens advice was worthless. If you werent saying that...my bad, then.

Anyways, what Oba said. If that doesnt work, scan your computer for viruses? Or maybe you just got a corrupted version of Halo. Good luck...

On some maps of Halo CE, when I get into a new custom-made vehicle, my game stops and the box says "Gathering Exception Data". It might happen to you because you have modifacations on your computer, or more specifically, on Halo.

I wasn't saying it was worthless, it should have worked. and my computer doesn't have viruses, I just checked that. And it isn't a corrupted Halo because it happened when I had the trial too. I thought that the Retail version would be able to work because of the updates, and patches, but it doesn't.

And gamer, thanks for the advice but If I can't even get the game to work, I won't have any mods on it. Thanks anyway.

i've had friends that get the exception error, and it magically goes away if you try running halo enough. It's weird.

How about just a plain old reboot. Those can do wonders for other unexplainable errors.

Well I guess I could try running it some more. Hopefully after a while it will fix it. and, yeah, I tried a reboot. You know you'd think Bungie or Microsoft would at least mention this. I mean you all say you've seen people that have had the problem. Even if they don't know how to fix it they should at least tell you about it. But, I'm pretty sure this isn't gonna work, so I just wasted my money. I've spent hours trying to get it to work and I've seen no progress. Thanks anyway guys for trying you help me. Oh well.

Try to install it on another computer and if it still doesn't work, you know it does and if it works you know that you need to get your comuter checked by a pro. Or it could be that the case install numbers are wrong.

I suppose anything's worth a try. I could try installing it on my old Dell. I saw a commercial for Geek Squad today, maybe they could help.

the only time i know of which i got the exception was when i updated drivers for my video card, i tweeked some settings on it and it worked fine, u might try looking for new video card drivers. i believe there is a 5.7 version of the catalyst. and make sure u have the 1.07 version of halo. ;)

it's ok guys, I found out what was wrong. It was my sound card. I turned off my sound thru the control panel and then ran Halo and it was all good. I'm getting a new sound card today. If anyway else has a problem like me see if this helps- go into your control panel and check sound, speeches, and audio devices. from there go into change speaker settings. then mute the volume. Thanks for your help anyway guys.
