Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Just re-installed XP and Halo PC. Decided to leave graphics settings at the defaults. For some reason whenever any particles are on the screen, like from grenades or rocket explosions, the frame rate drops a lot. Anyone know why? This is GeForce 9800 GT, I figured it should at least be able to sustain 30 FPS for Halo PC.

Check out my Gaming Rig on EVGA Mod Rigs.

What are the rest of your game settings and hardware?

I max everything out 1440 x 900, 60hz, Vsync. Are you talking about MP or Campaign without a problem. But I also have a XFX 4870 1GB.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

I noticed a problem with particles on Vista using nVidia cards, but you're using XP. Did you try turning decals off? Yes, turning decals off is supposed to be a fix for low FPS on Vista, but maybe its an nVidia thing too.

Hardware? I'm guessing you already tried latest video drivers?

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

I'm having FPS lag with a nvidia gtx 260 on vista, and its not decals too. Seems like it is a issue with Halo PC and Nvidia (it played better on a older ATI card.)

Hardware? I'm guessing you already tried latest video drivers?

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
Audio: Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Mouse: Creative Labs Fatal1ty Gaming Mouse 1600 CPI
Video: EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Superclocked 512 MB

All drivers are up to date. Previous NVIDIA drivers made Halo PC/CE crash at startup. Now they run, but not very well.

Well from what I found online it does appear to be an issue with some nvidia cards. Certainly not an issue with any of the other hardware that would have any impact on Halo CE.

I don't remember it being an issue when I was running 8800GTS 512's in SLI but sorry I can't be of more help.

Seems as though they just may not be updating the driver to increase compatibility with older games like Halo CE.

What happens if you reduce some of the particle effects and such? Does performance improve much?

Yep, turning particle effects down to low helps quite a bit. Just seems lame I have to tone down the effects on this fancy expensive graphics card. :|

I turned everything down to as low as you can and my Halo 2 for vista lags like crazy when I'm playing the single player campaign and nothing but the game is running. It's like wtfh?

Yea that sucks. Are you running Vista, Win7, or XP?

I wonder if it would behave any differently on a different OS?

Post your dxdiag, it will be easier to find out info about your system.
go to Start|Run|dxdiag
at the bottom of the page click Save All Information
save the file, open it, then copy paste everything here
EDIT: also on some nvidia cards they have problems with shadows, try disabling them

happened to my nvidia 240M on win vista, but went away with win 7. I believe it's a driver thing as well.

Man, that's the crappies. There's no way in hell I'm picking up Windows 7. I think I'll just install the driver that came with my vid card and stop updating.

Might the reason be the price tag?

If you're a college student, Digital River's still got the Win 7 offer up for $30.

After my experiences with Vista, I'm not going to pay for another Windows. XP works with most of my stuff, so I'm just gonna keep using it.

Rollback your Graphics drivers, updated drivers can F*** up HCE.
