Subject: Bungie really brought down the difficulty

The reason that Halo CE is much more difficult than the newer halos is because the game engine was not as advanced as the game engines we have today. Also alot of little things in the game made things difficult.

One thing is that when you attempt to melee an enemy, it does not lock right on to the enemy for a precise shot, but instead, the melee system was really sensitive with no auto lock on engine which made wacking an enemy very difficult.

Also the gun shooting system was different than the newer halos too. In Halo CE, you have to shoot above the enemy's torso inorder to inflict damage that won't get you hurt by the enemy when they shoot you back. In the newer halos, you can shoot from the waste up to and it will inflict quite a bit of damage.

Also, the health system made dying alot easier as when your shield is all the way down, every little shot you take, you lose a piece of health.

Lastly, in Halo CE, your shield does not regenerate as fast as in the newer halos. the marine who helps you through your new shield system in halo 2 mentions this about your melee system.

Two words: Plasma Pistol. Use it. It's a lifesaver on Heroic and up. Unlike in Halo 3, you have to plan out what you're going to do - you need to think.

The original Plasma Pistol was the greatest by far. Not only could you actually hurt someone with it, but if you really tried you could shoot it faster than an assault rifle (even though it overheats in like 2 seconds). And the seeking on the overcharged shot actually worked well.

All my opinion.

Halo 3 was noobified so people like you would buy the game, spread positive feedback, and not get discouraged. Bungie wanted to appeal to the largest audience, which would be people who cannot play Mario to save their life, to make more money.

Bungie had a different outlook when developing Halo 1, plus it was the first Halo game.

I don't miss H2's numerous nests of jackal snipers. One shot kills on you get tedious. H2 seemed incomplete. Enough so that I always called it Halo 1 1/2.
Combat Evolved on Legendary can be a real chore, but gives you a flexibility of action that the other games lack.
The Gravlift room on T&R still is quite difficult to complete.

Combat Evolved tips would be:
The Needler rapes elites of any color. Use the thrust fire technique if you find them dodging at medium or long range.
Stickies are plentiful. USE them. You ought to be able to tag a blissful elite from nearly any distance. You should kill half your elite enemies with stickies.
Plasma pistol/M6D combo will own any elite you face.
Hunters are way too easy. Don't fear them.
Warthog with Marine gunner is unbeatable.
Learn to spiral your way close to elites while pouring in plasma rifle fire. When you overheat you should be close enough to whack and dodge their counter.
Learn to find alternatives to Rocket Launcher and Sniper Rifle. Since you only carry two weapons, lugging those around limits your flexibility.
Enjoy Combat Evolved. It was lightning in a bottle that Bungie/Microsoft has yet to duplicate.

Yea, Halo: CE was the hardest, then halo 2....Bungie declined on the difficulty, maybe it made it people less compelled to play the game, no idea, but I could never get past The Library on legendary, hardest thing I've ever tried on a video game, but your right, Halo 3 is easy compared to CE

Posting on bungie.net should require that the user has had to have read a chapter book all the way through.

Halo 1 took a LOT of skill to play. The AI was better and harder to fight. In Halo 2 and 3 they just had more health.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

I believe the reason the campaign in Halo 3 feels so much easier is that every part in the campaign has a method to it. For every group of enemies, for every vehicle, for everything the enemy may or may not do, there is a method to take them all down with ease.

In Halo: CE, there were more straight up firefights. More duck for cover scenarios. And when the Elites have recharging shields and the Jackals do not flinch when being shot (they roll) you have to take some damage from time to time to get past certain areas.

And with the old health system that will just come back to bite you in the ass.

halo 1 was by far the best. well ballanced difficult, but fun. i think bungie kept halo 2 the same difficulty as halo 1 but cince the jackel snipers where added people got soo frustated with it they didnt like to play halo 2's campain. so bungie (trying to please everyone) made halo 3 so rediculesly easy to cope with the jackel's sniping, not relizing that this made everything else supper easy, thinking this was part of the problem. what bungie should of done if just took away the jackel's sniper. the carbine was a deicent sniper alone and this should of been the jackel's sniper but this is just my opinion.

Halo's Legendary was both fun and challenging. Halo 2's was just challenging, and Halo 3/ODST's were just fun. That's what I think, anyways.

Halo 2 was by far the most difficult and frustrating out of the games.

Hell..I was stuck on Cairo Station forever.

Once I got to the bomb room, I couldn't find the bomb. It was so frustrating when Commander Keyes said "Chief, the bomb's over here".

Halo: CE was really hard at first but, after playing Halo 2, it's easy in comparison. Still fun though.

Halo 2 was so hard the first time that I played it that after five hours stuck on a certain part of Cairo Station, I gave up. I beat the game on Legendary later but, I didn't like having to rely on the plasma pistol.

Halo 3 is the easiest with only a few hard parts.

If they made Halo 3's Legendary a challenge all the little cod kiddies would be crying endlessly becuase they can't get their 1337 cheeeeevmants!!!

Halo:CE was the hardest by far, Halo 2 was easier but not by much then there is Halo 3 and ODST. I could do them blind folded >.<!

Check out my Gaming Rig on EVGA Mod Rigs.

Oh god yes. Getting sniped during Outskirts was terrible. I did the same thing in H2 that I did with Halo CE and played Co-op through the campaign on Legendary. I'm sure this made it a lot easier.

Agreed completely. Halo 2 Legendary was just...the most frustrating gaming experience I've ever had.

Indeed, jackal snipers and the Halo 2 brute gorilla rage was bad...

I agree but Halo 2 still was the most difficult game on Legendary by far.

I agree, jackal snipers are annoying in h2 single player mode. They make you to take out speed of your assault. Furthermore it depends on how lucky you are to pass them without dying.

Similary, dual wielding elites will bring you also hard times. As they are lowering your shilds so fast, if they shoot (if they do not shoot and just taunt you they are easy to kill), that you have no chance winning an 1v1 without noob combo in an open fielded combat scenario.

However, there are a lot of differences in single player mode. Thus, no part of Halo is really comparable with another.

Not totally related, but I love how the ODSTs in Halo 3: ODST take two beam rifle shots to be killed.

in my opinion, hardest on legendary First. Halo2 just sucked on legendary. it was fun,but the snipers and the checkpoint reset was VERY frustrating.

Halo2
Halo:CE
Halo3. (In my opinion, mythic, is the new legendary.)

No one has the right to take the life of another.

Halo: CE is pretty hard on Legendary. In fact it's a fun hard. You have to make up strategies and if you are with a partner both of you have to cooperate with each other. Halo 3 was sadly more like a do whatever you want type of thing.

I'm terrified of doing the Legendary on any. I don't think I could do the Warthog run in 5 minutes.

  • 01.19.2010 9:12 AM PDT

I thought H2 was the hardest on legendary. Might have to give it a go again - it's been a while!
