I had to replace my xbox recently, and subsequently had to completely replay the entire H2 campaign on legendary to be able to select levels for future game play. This experience has led me to several conclusions:

1-I hate the Arbiter levels even more than before. For some reason the sound of his damn hoofs clacking on the floors even got me annoyed. The Arbiter falls so quickly to enemy fire, damn Prophets did not seem to concerned with, oh say, ARMOR.

2-The Arby and MC levels that are flood oriented drive me nuts, to the point that they are not even enjoyable anymore. The flood in H2 changed so dramatically from CE it just did not make story sense. They went from "I will follow you until you kill me or I kill you" mode to random crazy dancing all over the place. Instead of introducing something substantially new and novel from the flood standpoint they just made them erratic, harder to kill and gave a few of them shields. On legendary 2 melee blows from a combat form and you are done. The fact that you have to dust them to keep them from coming back alive is not a real change as it was not uncommon for a "dead" flood to come back around at you if you did not finish him off to the games satisfaction (seeing the little sparks of dying infection form go off near the head).

3-With the exception of Outskirts, Metropolis and Delta Halo the skulls are way to important to enjoying the Campaign than they should be. Playing through the levels in order again means no skulls till you hit the level. Sputnik is just too damn important in saving time (moving things into position during Cairo Station) to have to wait till 2/3rds of the way through the game to get it. Once I got exposed to the skulls through the forums and net surfing of other Halo sites, the game became much more enjoyable during campaign. It allowed you to do more, and explore parts of the game you just cannot without them (especially sputnik). The big advantage of CE was that you could approach the exact same battles with very different weapons mixes and strategies and have an absolute blast. In H2, without the skulls you are much more limited in what you can use to accomplish your tasks and make it through levels. Envy, GBP, Catch, Sputnik all make for added fun, as do the others in terms of adding difficulty. Take them away, and you are left with a game that plays almost exactly the same every time.

4-Vehicle combat in H2 SUCKS. Why is it that I can get a plasma round lobbed only somewhat near me by a Wraith and I am dead, gone, bye-bye. Put me in a Wraith and I can direct hit Brute or Flood ghosts and hogs and they just keep on a comin'. Very very very very very irritating! One rocket fired by a flood and your tank is toast, but use a rocket on an enemy vehicle, even a barely armored ghost, and you might as well be throwing sticks and yelling harsh insults for the good it will do you. Don't even get me started on how weak the Scorpion's main gun is!

5-The feel of the game is not as much to my liking as CE's is. The overall feel of H2 is fantastic in some ways. Overall though I found the up close and personal feel of CE more in my wheelhouse. The CE enemies just seem closer, larger and less stupidly comical. Granted, the Hunters got improved infinitely, but other than that the most amusing part of the game, the grunts, got just plain ruined.

Now having gotten all of that off my chest, I very much enjoy aspects of H2, but the experience of playing it all the way through, just like the first time, has just been underwhelming and what I am considering a necessary evil. I guess the only good thing is that when the game ends I already know what is coming, and I do not have to stare angrily at the screen, screaming WTF! That's it!?
