Yo people,

So iggwilv, i think im positive i can do something about this problem, i have a BT router, that is connected to 2 computers in my house, is that a good source of information? If so, tell me how to configure it so i can host this server. If or when i configure it to the right IP, would the IP address change?

Spartan 012

Glad to see you haven't given up. I looked up BT routers and found there website http://www.voyager.bt.com Let me guess you live in England. They have many different models so your going to have to login and identify which one is yours. Once you find the model you will be able to download the manual. I tried to do one and its in some format I never heard of, and can't open. The manual should be able to walk you thru the process. Its commonly called port forwarding but you Brits always come up with funny ways of saying things so I can't be sure. :) Let me know how it goes and if you have any problems/questions.

Are you some computer specialist or something? Because i dont know. But any way, when i started the game with that IP address, it worked fine, so whats wrong with, will other people not be able to go on it, or is it that " Your client is newer than the server " crap comes up?

If people can join then it doesn't really matter does it? They can just use the gamespy lobby or get xfire.

I work with computers, yes, networking is not my field but I have studied about it on this particular issue. You will be able to enter the game if you are on the server or on another computer in the same network as the server. But people trying to connect to your server from outside your router will not be able to connect to 192.168.x.x, because Internet routers did not forward packets with those addresses. They're aren't enough IP addresses to give every computer in the world an IP Address. so they came up with the idea of a private network IP range. Company ABC has 5000 workstations it wants to connect to the Internet. Instead of hogging up 5000 IP address the ISP gives it one 20.30.40.50. The router is programmed with an external IP address 20.30.40.50 that the Internet sees and an Internal network range 192.168.x.x. It starts assigning addresses to computer when they login. When one of the workstation asks for a web page the router send it out to the page and keeps track of what station made that request. When the response comes back from the external website it knows where to route that information. Company XYZ has the same exact setup so chances are both companies have a workstation using 192.168.0.2 So as not to cause confusion and flood the internet with unneeded packets ISP routers are configured to drop packets addressed to 192.168.x.x. So that is why we in different parts of the country will not be able to attach to your server at 192.168.0.2. The router in between will not forward that address. I hope this explains the situation and it can be resolved it we can configure your router. If anyone else can explain this easier feel free to chime in.

It might automaticaly forward the ports, set up the server and I can see if I can join form the game lobby. If I can, then you don't need to worry about it.

By all means, if someone outside of your network is able to see and connect to the server using Gamespy or direct IP then your good. *bling* Lightbulb now I see what mr ma5b may be talking about. If Gamespy is recording the external address the server broadcast is coming from and directing people to it automatically, DMZ will work because it opens all ports and directs them them to the server.

Spartan012 -- setup your server and have someone (not in your network)try and connect to it though Gamespy and see if it works.

I have a server running right now. I am taking suggestions if you have them for gametypes. I don't have a password on it because its too much of a hassel.

I was not aware of the auto-ban system on HPC, thank you for so eloquently bringing that to my attention.

Is the server on HPC or HCE?

unfortunately, tkers just quit and come back to reset their tk's, and they tk all they want.

Chewy, is there a certain port that you use for your server besides 2302?

edit: so that i don't double post, i can start a server around 2 p.m. pacific time today. The IP will be 168.103.168.163:2300, called "maw members", password "damaw". i can start whatever gametype you ask for. I ask that you all change your network settings in halo to 56k, so that i can theoretically support the maximum of 8 players with low lag. If you need to contact me quick, please use xfire.

The server is on PC and I haven't changed any port settings for the server. I would say you go through the lobby the first time then you can use the IP in there cause I don't have a static one.

Well there were some idiots on it earlier who thought I was hacking. So I agreed with them thinking they'd shut up but nope, they then proceded to call me other things and said they would ban me from Halo multiplayer, I laugher and said you can't ban me. He eventualy said that he could contact the admin (which is me) and get me banned, when I said I was the admin he said no your not, so I kicked him. He didn't come back.

I.E. People are too damned lazy to get off their asses and actually download or even try CE, much less contribute anything back to the community.

Correction - the flaw was not in SLD's design, but rather in the unwillingness of the people to try.

That's a little perturbing to me.... and honestly if it still pisses me off, expect the HPC version of the stats project to have its release date pushed back another 4 months past the HCE version. I am a bastard, I know - you don't have to tell me.

I didn't mean it was your fault, I meant that that was why it was unsuccesful.
