Hello everybody, is it possible that a provider can crash halo through a fast but not constant connection ? I noticed that my upload and download speeds are always high(and ping of around 30 milliseconds) but the connection stutters. I have a cable connection and i have the strong feeling that there is some multiplexing involved. It is also strange that it happens one week not and then every day multiple times a day for weeks.

It is not my computer, it is rockstable and never have crashes with any games or applications but halo. That is, ever since 1.07 patch has been released halo crashes. Before the patch i never experienced such problems.
The dll that crashes according to halo is vorbis.dll.

I have the latest drivers for every device and the latest offical bios, even an new soundcard(which i did not buy to see if my problems were solved with halo, just to let you know). And again: my system and other applications never crashes and halo never crashed before the halo 1.07 patch.

System is w2k +sp4 +various security updates (I know, it is always a guess :) ), 1024 MB ddr400@360Mhz[ 2 3 2 10] (in dualchannel mode), Barton2800+@2,25Ghz, Radeon9600XT, abit NF7 S2 with NForce2U400..
Gfx and cpu temperatures are around 44 degrees celcius through special aircooling(made by me, more efficient and less fans and better then intel btx idea) at full load and roomtemperature of 25 degrees celcius.
overall system temperature is 36 degrees celcius. My system is rocksolid and can run memtest for days without failures or crashes.

It is halo with bad network code since patch 1.07 !
The crashes occur random while in network menu where you can choose a server to play on or during the game.
This is the only game that crashes and it does so since patch 1.07. I replaced the dll with the version from the cd again and no changes. I am going to replace files untill i notice a change.
Since i do not get any answer also from bungie this is the only thing i can try...

A reliable technical answer would really be appreciated if someone can give me one...

Thank you in advance

I found the fix for vorbis.dll, vorbis_file.dll and ogg.dll. I am going to see if it makes a difference.

there is no search feature in this forum that i know of. It would cut down on the same question being asked over and over and over again.

Erm...I guess ill have to refute my earlier statement that one can never give out too many tech specs when trying to solve a problem. Most of the info is useful, true, but I doubt if the overall temperature of the system will have any bearing on this connection problem.

You gave us so many details about your computer, but explaning your actual problem was pretty vague. Please explain step-by-step what you do on the game when it crashes. (ie: Halo started normally, I clicked on menu "Multiplayer", clicked on "Join Game on Internet" etc etc) Also, any error messages or exactly what happens should be included.

I cant provide a technical answer, I suggest going to a member named "Sexy Legs Davis." Hes your best bet when it comes to such a computer problem. Send him a personal message and hope he knows what to do.

does halo itself crash or do you lose network connection?

Hello everybody,

To the people above;

Halo starts normal and everything is exactly the same with the only difference being that patch 1.07 is applied. I choose multiplayer, halo checks for updates and then i get the multiplayer screen which shows you the servers that are available. While being in this menu, halo randomly crashes with the vorbis.dll exception. Also randomly during online gameplay halo will crash because of vorbis.dll exception.

I do not loose my network connection before halo crashes.

An search machine would be nice do, because the fix i found, is somewhere in this forum between page 10 and 40.
Somebody said that he/she replaced the vorbis file located in the halo folder.
I replaced vorbis.dll, ogg.dll and vorbisfile.dll.

(Rename the oldversions and cut&paste them somewhere safe. After that copy&paste the new versions to the halo folder. If you do so you still have the originals. An other option is to copy the originals back from one of the cab files of the cd. I do not know if these files are updated so the first option is preferred.)

The newer versions can be found on this link.

http://www.vorbis.com/download_win_1.0.1.psp

At the moment i do not experience crashes related to vorbis.dll anymore, so i am hoping it is the solution. So Meathacker, i hope it also works for you.
To the person who came up with the idea, i just want to say thank you. All though i do not know who this person is.
