Titanius, the Chieftain of his pack of Brutes, stood in the bridge of the CCS-class Battlecrusier, The Pride of Doisac, under his command. The Hierarchs put him in charge of destroying the small human planet known as Prosperity. It was a little agricultural world used by the humans as a breadbasket to fuel their war effort with food.

Humanity Titanius thought to himself Such complex creatures. The were discovered long ago and labelled as filth by the San 'Shyuum,. Titanius didn't particularly understand why that decision was made, but the San 'Shyuum were the leaders of the Covenant and could not be questioned without inadvertently questioning the gods.

In Titanius' opinion, humanity was the only real species the Brutes could respect and relate to. In comparison to the other members of the Covenant, it broke down like so.

The humans were much braver than the Unggoy. When the Unggoy would cower or run, the humans would charge. Even the smallest of the humans was more of a risk than three Unggoy. He recalled a time when a human child, armed only with a small handheld firearm, took out five Grunts before being killed by a Banshee.

If given the opportunity to give a personal item between a human or a Kig-Yar, he would chose the human. The Kig-Yar were found as pirates and thieves and continued to act as such. They hoard food, weapons, and whatever they could get their talons on. In battle, humans were seen giving food and shelter to other humans who wee otherwise without any.

The Yanme'e fit their names perfectly. They were a thoughtless hive mind that served very little purpose to the Covenant except for the purpose or engineering and menial labor, but the Huragok could fill that void. Humans on the other hand were vastly different. Apparently they self-governed themselves without the need of some queen like the Yanme'e. Titanius even heard that the humans had a civil war of their own before encountering the Covenant, this showed they could think for themselves.

The Sangheili were most despised by all Brutes in the Covenant. They were too prideful of their warrior society and boasted about their ranking in the Covenant at every opportunity. At least the humans would gloat at times where they rightfully deserved the right, such as winning a battle or getting a glorious kill.

The Mgalekgolo were the only real Covenant species Titanius could respect. They devoted themselves to the Mgalekolo who shared a bond with them, were valiet fighters, and kept to themselves. Their only downside was that they ate precious Forerunner technology, a great sin that had to be stomached.

As for San 'Shyuum, not much could be said. They were frail creatures who were never seen in combat, but they were the voice of the gods. Titanius had no real opinion of them.

Nonetheless, he was bitter at their decision to offer him only one ship to take the human world of Prosperity. True, it was a small world and the Covenant BattleNet claimed it wasn't heavily fortified. The problem deep down did not rest with the one ship, but by the world. With no resistance, how would the Jiralhanae thirst for battle be quenched? Titanius, like all Brutes, love a good fight. However, this mission looked as though that wouldn't happen.

"Chieftain" one of the Brute navigators said "We have arrived at the destination". Titanius nodded and spoke into a loudspeaker...

"My brothers, prepare yourselves for combat!" he roared with as much enthusiasm as he could muster "For soon we shall descend on the humans and fulfill the will of the gods!".

The proud roar of the Brutes onboard could be heard all the way to bridge. So great was the roar that the sleeping Unggoy inside the bridge awoke and panicked.

When The Pride of Doisac exited Slipsapce, he could see the yellowish-orange hued plant of Prosperity materialize on his viewing screen. This shall be a quick victory Titanius thought to himself. After having this thought, he sighed. Victory should never be easy.

I do not consider it an insult, but rather a compliment to be called an agnostic. I do not pretend to know where many ignorant men are sure -- that is all that agnosticism means. -Clarence Darrow

Pretty good. Some grammar errors, but that's nothing that can't be fixed.

It seems like Titanius is different than most Jiralhanae by the fact he seems a bit apprehensive to kill a human.

It seems like Titanius is different than most Jiralhanae by the fact he seems a bit apprehensive to kill a human.

Titanius is modelled after the Brute Leader from Halo Wars. He apparently fought in the war for so long that humans had earned his respect. The same can be said for Titanius. But he will still kill humans, the Prophets still run the show and what they say goes.

Titanius casually walked toward the Phantom that would lead him to the planet's surface. Thus far, no human resistance had been met in space, but what lay below was still a mystery. He edged his way to the middle of the ship and stood on the grav lift, he would be the first to step down on Prosperity.

The other Jiralhanae, Unggoy, and Kig-Yar stood in front of the walls of the Phantom. Once those hatches dropped, the fight began. A quick, sudden rumble and the Phantom was up and making it's way out of the Battlecrusier. It took only ten minutes to make it to the surface of the world from The Pride, but those few minutes built up the anticipation for bloodshed.

The Jiralhanae pack huffed with impatience, Unggoy squads were adjusting their methane tanks, and Kig-Yar twitched with the occasional squawk. Titanius simply grabbed his Gravity Hammer and slowly floated down to the planet below. Once he touched down he emitted a deafening roar which signalled the Phantoms to open their load.

Waves of Covenant troops surged out an landed on the perpetual autumn surface of prosperity. The grass remained a wheatish tan all year round on this world and the trees only shifted from orange to yellow every 8 months of the 16 month planetary cycle. It had a sense of calm to it all as the humans toiled on crop after crop. Titanius would have the honor of disrupting that.

As the vehicles made their way down, Titanius ordered a charge and ran to the valley below. All of the Jiralhanae's power armor glittered in the sun as they rushed the small human village below. Thousands of Spiker rounds, Plasma Pistol bolts, and Carbine shots rained on the human populace. Many who were outside quickly fell, but the few who did retreated inside.

Once the Covenant infantry made it inside the town, human peasants emerged from their abodes, only armed. The farmers had equipped themselves with hunting rifles used to take down Prosperity's big game animals. Titanius watched as a few pf his troops fell amidst the cracks of archaic human weapon fire. The Covenant founds shelter with whatever they could find, concrete walls, steel buildings, or simple wooden cabins.

The willpower of these simple peasants was astounding to Titanius. Here they were outnumbered 1,000 head of Covenant to around 130 of themselves, and more Covenant were on the way. Still, they fought on as hard as they could, but it was futile.

Titanius picked up his Gravity Hammer and ordered a charge. He and his pack tore into the human line. Their power armor easily deflected the bullets, but the human's garments did little to protect them. Blade from Spikers, blades from Maulers, and fists cut and maimed the humans. A man attempted to rush and stab Titanius with a pitchfork, but was smashed into the ground by his massive hammer.

"A futile effort human" Titanius said with a gruff "But one that was just as brave."

"Chieftain, our Wraiths and Choppers have touched down and are making their way to our position." a Jiralhanae Major declared.

"Good" Titanius managed to grunt out "And what of the Mkgalegolo pairs?".

"They will arrive with the next wave of equipment ready to protect you" the Major answered "As if you need protect."

Titanius let out a smile and chuckle and ordered the Major to continue the final exterminations of the humans left in the settlement. As the blue and grey dots of distant Wraith and Chopper units rolled down the valley hills, Titanius looked in the horizon as distant amber hued clouds radiated from the system's sun.

These few humans gave their lives, though perhaps in panic, to protect their way of life Titanius thought to himself. A lone human male with a gut full of spikes lay near his feet, eyes wide open. He kneeled down and put his massive claw over the man's eyes to shut them out of respect. Up ahead , a gashed up female was still clutching a shotgun, two slugs and a dead Jiralhanae lay at her feet with a bloody Mauler at his side.

It was August, one of his more skilled Jiralhanae. Looks like this human woman managed to land two shots on the warrior before he cut her with his Mauler. All the same, he had lost too much blood and collapsed. Like the human man, he closed the female human's eyes, but not August'.

"I'm afraid you do not deserve a fitting gesture" Titanius said with disgust "Surviving multiple campaigns against human military only to be cut down by a peasant woman."

With that, he walked off.

"Surviving multiple campaigns against human military only to be cut down by a peasant woman."

I lol'd at this.

That's fine. Expect the next part out later today. Opinions thus far?

The rumbling of the Choppers could be heard for miles around. Whatever obstacle they touched was instantly turned into mulch as the titanic bladed wheels of the Choppers pushed ahead. Trailing behind were the Wraiths, Unggoy, Kig-Yar, and Mkgalekgolo, not that it mattered. Titanius was perfectly content with just him and his pack roaming the planet on their Choppers.

Suddenly, an explosion destroyed a Jiralhanae in his Chopper up ahead, the metal and gore spraying around the blast zone.

"Halt!" Titanius ordered.

The pack dismounted off their vehicles and gathered toward their Chieftain. He examined the wreckage and spotted what was once a human anti-vehicle mine.

Strange Titanius thought to himself, These types of weapons are typically found on planets where the human military had assembled.

By that time the rest of the Covenant infantry and vehicles had caught up and were oblivious to what happened. Camp was set up at that position shortly after. Make-shift metal plates made up simple shacks where they could sleep in and crates of food were put in the center of camp.

The Kig-Yar got to the food first and scarfed their share down. The Unggoy attempted to squeeze in, but the Jiralhanae got the better of them. Titanius hated the combat rations that were given to them by the Hierarch's. All the food lacked flavor or texture and was merely vacuum sealed corpse meat. He urged for better substance.

Getting five other Jiralhanae together, he went out in search for better food under the guise of surveilling the countryside. After an hour of exploring, they came across a human farm. Observation of the settlement showed no signs of human life, but plenty of animal life. The Jiralhanae slaughtered all livestock they could find.

Finding stacks of wood, they made a fire and cooked portions of meat over it.

"What is this I am eating?" one of the Jiralhanae asked the others.

"The humans call it a cow" Titanius answered "And that over there is chicken."

"Tastes like thronbeast!" another Jiralhanae remarked, one that all of the party laughed at.

After they had their fill, they said a blessing to the gods thanking them for the find.

On the walk back, a Jiralhanae said "The humans may be heresy to the Great Journey, but they know their way around animal domestication."

Titanius nodded and not much else was said. He gazed up to the now night sky and wondered what was happening back on The Pride of Doisac.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second-in-command Jiralhanae Brutisan kept watch of the ship. The only Covenant left on the ship were the Jiralhanae needed to pilot the ship with the labor Unggoy and Kig-Yar rounding out the rest of the crew. The planet of Prosperity was before the him, gleaming in it's forever autumn hue.

The ship was relatively quiet with a majority of it's inhabitants gone and as a result was broing. Unggoy passed the time working or playing games, Kig-Yar bartered items, and the Jiralhanae trained or performing their jobs.

"Doesn't look like I'll see any combat this time." Brutisan muttered to himself in the bridge.

Out in space, multiple human satellites continued their paths around Prosperity. They were long stacks of cubes with rotating solar panels on four sides and a long cylindrical tube on the bottom. The satellites were of no harm to a mighty ship like The Pride seeing as they presented to clear threat. Something was happening though, the tubes at the end were slowly starting to face the Battlecrusier.

The crew of The Pride of Doisac took not immediate notice until red lasers hit the ship.

AL is preventing me from having fun. It is also preventing a lot of people from having fun. People who defend AL say they can live without it. It is obviously unfair in many ways.

SO WHY DON'T WE REMOVE/TWEAK IT?

Also, yes, I do goose.

Very nice! I've never seen a story from a Brute's point of view.

The Pride took damage from the lasers, even with the ship's energy shielding up. How was this possible? Brutisan ordered every weapon to fire on the satellites perpetrating the attack. Bursts of blue and purple plasma arched out of the ship and into the installation of combat satellites. When destroyed, they erupted in a violent burst of red energy.

When the battle had ended, The Pride had suffered some damage in the hanger, COMM array, and engines. Brutisan sent out some Huragok to go repair what they could.

How could the humans do this he wondered I don't recall them having such technology.

---------------------------------------------------------------

On the surface of Prosperity, the Covenant forces were sleeping. Overlooking them was a cliff with a vantage point that had a clear view of the camp. Two Kig-Yar were keeping watch over the area, Beam Rifles ever ready to be used. Suddenly, they fell with two suppressed magnum rounds to the head, their corpses twitching in a pool of purple blood.

The human soldiers who did this quickly set up a machine gun emplacement and loaded a rocket launcher. With the camp in his sight, the rocket operator unleashed his explosive payload. This was no ordinary rocket launcher though, it fired two rockets that fragmented into several explosive rounds.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Titanius awoke in a frenzy after hearing the impact of explosives. He ran out of his shack to see a human machine gun firing down on his camp. The lesser species like the Unggy and Kig-Yar fell easily under the siege. A Mkgalekgolo shield covered him ans the pings of bullets hit it. This Mkgalekgolo had saved him and escorted him to a safer position.

The rest of the Jiralhanae pack were assembled near the dining shack and were forming up a strategy.

"Chieftain" one of the Minor Jiralhanae said "What shall we do?".

"We need to get rid of those humans up there" he replied "Can we get to one of the Wraiths?".

"Not unless you're impervious from sustaining damage at the hand of the humans." another pack member responded.

The Chieftain stood up and activated his energy shield, the white light causing a blinding effect in the darkness of night. He sprinted to a nearby Wraith and could feel he machine gun fire reflect off of his form. With a jump, he made his way to he tank and slid into the operators seat. The machine gun was still firing on him, but it was for nought. A blast of blue plasma later and the fire stopped.

Titanius crawled out of the tank and waited. When several minutes passed without any return fire, he breathed a sigh of relief. One the ground near him was the human rocket launcher, but it was strangely designed. It looked the same, but it had a see-through circular scope jutted out of it with grooved barrels where the rocket would launch. In all his time in the war, he had seen nothing like this.

"My brothers" Titanius announced "There is more to this planet than meets the eye, this is not just a food producing world as the human military is present here as well."

Now Titanius was getting excited, this mission wouldn't be so dull and easy after all.
