Today I got the Marathon Trilogy Box Set for Macintosh. I have a 2009 Macbook Pro. I put the disc in and tried to launch one of the games and I recieved this message: You can't open the application Marathon v1.2 because the Classic environment is no longer supported. Can anyone help?

Ach! Was ist los?

You won't be able to run the original Marathon executables on a modern Mac. Either use the AlephOne executable (you'll need to use the M1A1 data files) or run the originals in an emulator like SheepShaver.

I see the link for AlephOne in the OP. What are the M1A1 data file and what is SheepShaver?

Can it be played on windows 7?

M1A1 is what you get if you click the 'Marathon' game file link in the OP. It's basically Marathon 1 recreated on top of AlephOne, since the original M1 files aren't compatible with the engine shared by M2, Moo and A1.

SheepShaver and its predecessor Basilisk II are Macintosh emulators, supporting PowerPC and 68k Macs respectively. They're open source, but you'll need a copy of Mac OS 7/8/9 to run inside them. IIRC System 7 can still be found on Apple's support website, but it's not optimal for playing 'thon.

I downloaded AlephOne and all three game files from the OP. The M1A1, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity are each in their own folder on my dock. Can you explain this: Unzip Aleph One and your game files. Copy and paste the AlephOne executable into each unzipped game folder.

You may now launch the games by double-clicking the Aleph One executable in that game's folder.

If you downloaded and unpacked AlephOne, you should have an 'AlephOne' program file with a green Marathon logo for an icon. Copy that into the M1, M2 and Moo folders.

I have that.
Copy that into the M1, M2 and Moo folders. So just drag and drop in in each folder? Also, the game file folders named themselves: M1A1, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity. Does that make any difference?

The first time I played Marathon was the Summer of 2006. My friend finally got me to play it after years of telling me how good it was and how much I'd love it. I played through all three of them that Summer and since then they have become my favorite FPSs and maybe even my favorite games ever.

That was the last time I played them(other than a bit of Marathon 2: Durandal on xbox), and I realized I didn't have the games on my computer anymore! I just fixed that though. Thanks Bungie! For making awesome games, and then making them free. I really can't express how awesome you guys are to me and my friend.

Nope, should be fine.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

hey I tried installing it and it says the files aren't there to run.

You need to download the game files in addition to the Aleph One files, and drag the game files into the aleph one folder, and merge the folders.

Hi,

For the original Marathon, when I apply Open GL for the modded the textures, the game crashes every time I try to open up the map.

Any idea what's going on? Suggestions?

Thanks.

Life is like a clogged toilet. It's full of crap until you do something about it.

I don't speak Karate!

I just got Marathon 1, but now I'm stuck on the level in the sunbathing area. What do I do? Whenever I start making progress, I die of lack of oxygen, and when I don't die that way, I can't find a healing machine and die. I have only used the pattern buffer at the start of the level.

EDIT: Beat that, figured out the level real quick. However, now I can't beat Blaspheme Quarentine. After the one terminal where Durandel gives you questions, then answers them, talking about his shotgun, there is a puzzle. After I solve the puzzle, I am teleported to a square area, HULKS AND BLUE PFHOR!!! I am wiped out immediatly! What do I do?

Spartan IJS - Tricky issue - what are you system specs? Try updating your video card drivers. If that doesn't work, mess around with the compatibility settings of the Aleph One executable.

nitwitcoffee10 - check out the Marathon Spoilers Guide for that level if you're really stuck.

Do you guys recoomend the other Marathon scenarios? I.e Eternal, Red, Rubicon, the ones on the front page.

I downloaded Eternal, and I'm thinking on playing that after I re-play through the entire trilogy since I guess it takes place after Infinity.
Just, are these scenarios/campaigns good? Storyline wise and such? The front post says some of them are close to the original games.
Second opinions?

Edit: It seem "Evil" and "Red" were designed to be played with the original titles? Not through Alephone? Cause I"m not having any luck wit those two. But I downloaded and tested out "Eternal" and "Rubicon" perfectly.

it might be that you have downloaded the old Mac OS versions of the scenarios. Eternal has a very strong story, but I dislike the gameplay of it. Don't dive into it yet, too, because I have it from a good source that a new version of Eternal will be out soon, with new high-res weapons rendered from 3D models and improvements on frustrating levels. Definitely play Rubicon for now and keep an eye on Eternal-related news.

Rubicon is fun. Play it.

Checked the guide, it says:

Now you've cleared out the other square area, and are stuck down in a pit? Then go to the center of the west wall and look for a door. This will reveal a long corridor that will take you back to the first part of the level, and the door to the final room will be open.

I am trying to clear out that square are talked about in the first sentence, when I die. I am playing on normal difficulty. Maybe I should just try on kindergarten...

EDIT: Kindergarten worked. It took the enjoyment out of the game, almost.

By system specs, do you mean system information? My PC is Vista, I have a ton of memory and RAM, I think my GHZ is decent.
Updating my video card drivers might be out of the question, I don't know.
And is there a compatibility settings folder in Aleph One, or no?

From what I saw, there was no form of Alephone capable files for those two scenarios.

Is that so? Well if I get to it by the time of completing Infinity I think I'll still rty it out.

I definitely remember playing Red on Aleph One, and Evil was certainly ported.
