I have a DSL connection, with a wireless network in the house. I was looking at the list of routers that support xbox live, and mine wasn't listed. It is a Netgear MR814, and it wasn't listed under both routers that work and ones that don't. Is there someone I can e-mail or call to find out if my router will support it?

I just went to Best Buy, explained to the guy what kind of Internet connection and set-up I had and where my Xbox was and he told me what I needed to buy. And it didn't cost that much either which was great. I was going to go wireless since my Xbox is really far from my computer, but said it would be slower and too expensive to set-up. So I simply bought 100 feet of Ethernet cable and a router, and I left a happy Xbox gamer.

Actually, for $100, you can get the Xbox wireless kit from Microsoft. That guy who said wireless would be slow lied to you. If I remember correctly, 802.11 (What does the wireless router use, 802.11g?)g is about 14 ghz. Don't quote me on that, though, as I don't remember. You'd never notice a difference. This is why some LAN places are running their places wirelessly. Not only is it less of a hassle, but it just saves time.

Good luck with your 100' cable. :P

Edit: ^ That was to Dill X ^

Now, for the original poster, I would suggest saving up a bit of backup money. You can try to hook up your Xbox with your current router, and if it doesn't work, just head out and get the Microsoft Xbox one. Like I said above, I think it's about $100. Besides, if you get the annual plan, it's only $50. You'd have a whole year to get XBL working correctly.

802.11b is 11mbs
802.11g is 54mbs
cables are 100mbs

typical broadband connection is 1.5mbs

you would never notice the difference on xbl. the only problem is wireless connections can drop out quite frequently sometimes.

if you go to the link i posted above it will tell you what you need to do to get your router to work. you need to have that version of firmware and enable port forwarding

Cannot Log On XBox with Router

This is caused by servers on the XBox Live Network. Since it is not a problem with NETGEAR routers, support for it is not available.

The MR314 works with 3.26 firmware, using port forwarding.

there is your answer. maker sure your firmware is upgraded to 3.26 and you have port forwarding set up and it will work.

I'm still a bit skeptical, since it's not listed on the xbox live website as routers that work. I e-mailed Microsoft though, so hopefully it will work. Thanks for all the help!
