Subject: Is there an easier way to make H2V maps?

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

I'm getting a little angry spending $20 for a port of a game I already have, minus the fact it has better graphics and two new maps.

What I have to ask is simple. Is there an easier way for one to edit maps, rather than using 3ds Max and such? I've spent hours on a basic test map and had it get an error code when I tried to put it onto Halo 2 Sapien.

Any help with this?

I search tirelessly for the secrets of the one known as the webmaster and for ling-ling's head.

I am in the same boat...........other than H2V being on of the worst ports in the history of microsoft they added a map editor that is pretty complicated. I encountered the same problems as you when messin around with the practice map. My suggestion is go to a webiste called Halo custom maps or something they give tips on how to mod and create maps on Halo 2 or Halo CE

easiest way to make maps, is to copy and paste (hex) from campaign maps.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Every map editor is complicated if you dont know what you are doing. Halo maps has a tutorial for the map editor.

Also, Map editors on PC arent like forge. So it isnt easy.

That'd be relevant if it let you create maps rather than just chuck a few objects about.

I LOL @ people who think forge is a real map editor. Its not. All you are doing is moving objects arond and boom you have a map variant, not a map. The only real halo 3 custom maps are on Modded 360s.

That's mostly true, but on Foundry and Sandbox - especially Sandbox - it is possible to create entirely new maps with alot of work and knowledge. There are some highly talented forgers at ForgeHub. I've watched my brother, Brute Captain/The Yellow/Base Sick, who was a prominent ForgeHubber before switching to MW2, spend hours making maps using all those tricks like interlocking, floating, and merging. Forge was meant for simple tweaks but some talented people are able to hammer a square peg into a round hole and make great, albeit bland, maps.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

You still can't take Sandbox and make a lush jungle map out of it. Forge will always fall extremely short compared to real map editors.

They're still not maps. The skills required to make anything in Forge pale in comparison to the skills required to make an actual map. You can't compare to the two.

heres an example of how better modding is compared to Forging.

Not just that, but now with the freeboot and jtag hack, devkit mods are now possible on retail 360s.

They are maps. I know about Snowhalla. I know modded maps are much better. But Forge maps are still maps. Simple maps. There are perfect replicas of small Halo maps such as Lockout on Sandbox. So if it's impossible to make maps on Sandbox, Lockout isn't a map.

NO THEY ARE NOT!!!

In forge, you cant edit the terrian, import things, and that stuff. You arent even creating a map from scratch, you are just moving around objects.

In game, they call them "Map Variants", not maps.

If you see some halo CE or halo 2 custom maps, you see many things you cant do in forge.

They're really not. If you can show me one perfect replica, I might change my mind. ;)

They're variants of a map unless you create something entirely from scratch. Model it, texture it, set it up for play and everything else that goes with making actual maps.
