I think there should definitely be health that dissipates after a headshot or a couple torso shots, but if I had it my way Halo 2's damage model would be a lot more complicated than the first one's. Basically, you have a shield that absorbs all damage equally no matter where you are hit and that recharges like it does now. But, once your shields are down you'd be open to attack in seven distinct regions; the right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg, head, torso, and back. The armor on your torso would be strongest, taking about six direct hits from a plasma rifle, but if you lose your armor here one shot will kill you. Your back would be exactly the same. The head armor would take about two and a half plasna rifle bolts, and after it is destroyed you lose your HUD and underwater breating capability and one shot there kills you. The arms would each take about four plasma rifle hits to crack - after that, hitting the left arm prevents the target from throwing grenades and hitting the right arm forces him to drop his weapon. The legs would each take five and a half plasma rifle bolts. Being shot in one without the armor will mangle the leg, slowing you down considerably, and if both legs are taken out you will be forced to move in the crouched position and grenade throwing will be seriously impeded as you will only be able to put your arm into it. SPARTAN-IIs fight to the death.
